Trading volumes on centralized crypto exchanges fell in May to the lowest level since October 2020, totaling $424 billion. This is due to the outflow of large market makers and a reorientation of investors towards decentralized exchanges (DEX), as well as a decrease in price volatility, particularly noticeable after reaching an annual peak in March.
The ratio of trading volume on DEX compared to CEX rose to a record 22%, amid the growing popularity of meme-cryptocurrencies. At the same time, the share of Ethereum in the total supply on centralized platforms in May dropped to the lowest level since July 2016–14.85%.
