2023.06.05 13:34 scvhi437 Metaspeed Edge+ for the Noosa half marathon - big PB
After some very useful advice from this sub, I took the plunge on the Metaspeed Edge+'s for the Noosa AUS half marathon, and am stoked I did.
Quick background - I'm a 33M, 6ft, 82kgs. Had a long and pretty comprehensive training block, so was in pretty good shape leading up to the race and was hoping for sub 1:40. This was the first time I employed somewhat of a rotation (3 other halves were done solely in various Peg editions), with 2x Peg 37s, Triumph 19, and the Edge+ for a few speed runs and race day. Pegs were size US 12 (probably too small but already had significant kms in them), Triumph and Edge+ were US12.5, which felt perfect out of the box.
In the end I managed a 6 and a half minute PB (1:37:xx) but most interestingly I ran a 40 sec 5km PB at the end of the race (21:40). That might say more about the lack of hard 5km runs I've had, but was still pretty awesome to finish with some juice in the legs.
I'm a real heel striker and although I thought I was hitting somewhere nearer the mid-sole on the run, the photos proved otherwise - smashing the lovely, largely unprotected heel of the Edge+ into the Noosa roads. My legs and feet were mostly great all race, other than a slight niggle around my ankle where I thought the lacing might be too tight. That pain came in after about 5-6km but passed within a km. Legs were pretty fresh the day/week after too - no abnormal aches or pains, and nothing in the ankle.
So while I obviously love the shoe I've got no idea how much I can put the result down to them, as this was easily my best preparation for a half both in terms of training and nutrition. All I can say is when I wanted to pick up the pace I wasn't worried about my shoes, and that was awesome. Highly recommend, will wear again.

| I have been training seven days a week for six-seven months, eating 1700 calories a day. It's the hardest thing I have ever done. This lifestyle helped me beat my eating disorder. Nutrition: Weekday: 1705 calories per day 140g protein 50g non-starchy carbs 30g starchy carbs 105g fat Weekend: +80 grams starchy carbs Training: Three days of weight training with supersets, including six total exercises (although I usually do only four of the six regularly). Three days of cardio: 40 minutes of walking at 5.5km/h, 7.5% to 10% incline. My goal is to burn 300-400 calories. One day of cardio + calisthenics. Disclaimer: There are quite a few people on this sub now who can come across as very toxic and negative. Please keep in mind that it takes a lot for somebody to share images of themselves and be vulnerable. Be kind. Also, please do not give me unsolicited advice. I am working with a professional trainer and nutritionist and have regular bloodwork done to monitor my progress. 2023.06.05 09:12 WeightLossTKCR Weight loss Update and a few Questions
Starting Date: October 2022 SW:450lbs CW:315lbs GW:200lbs
Just thought I’d share an update incase anyone is thinking about starting their journey.
I had always been an on and off lurker on this sub, hoping to find inspiration and motivation to start my journey. I’m not exactly sure what clicked this time, but it’s been going great. I’m not entirely sure of my starting weight, but I know it was over 400lbs, and I’m pretty confident it was around 450lbs. I’m now at 315lbs after starting in October of 2022. And I feel great. 10hr work days used to leave me sore and tired, and now I feel fine after a long work day. Up until the last week, my entire weight loss had been through nutrition alone, along with having a job that keeps me walking between 5-10 miles a day. I finally joined a gym last week, and have gone daily except one day. If anyone would like to ask any questions, feel free to comment or DM.
On a side note, what kind of gym routines have you guys found to be successful. So far, I start out with some cardio (10-15 minutes on the stair stepper and 20 minutes on the treadmill with an incline). I then follow it with three sets on various weight machines. Does this seem like a good plan? I’m not hyper focused on certain muscle group days since at this point I just want to build overall muscles and continue losing weight. Also, I fully expected weight gain after starting to work out due to water retention. How long did this weight gain last for all of you? And did it gradually just go back down, or pretty quickly after a few weeks? I know it’s not fat gain since my diet is still on point and I’m for certain staying within my calorie limit (and I gained almost 6lbs the day following my first day at the gym).
Any advice is appreciated, and AMA about my journey. I’m more than willing to share.

Training
I ran the extremely downhill and fast Mt Charleston Marathon this April with the sole goal of qualifying for Boston and going sub 3. I managed to run a 2:53 and some change however in the back of my mind I didn’t feel great about qualifying on such a ridiculously downhill course. I signed up for the San Diego marathon as it has a reputation for being a tough course and I knew if I could break 3 in San Diego, then my fitness/speed was truly there.
I had about 9 weeks to recovetrain from Charleston until the marathon in San Diego. I’m a newish runner (running/training consistently about 10 months now) but I’m naturally quite fast. I focused on getting in as many miles as possible at a much easier pace than previous training blocks. I ran most of my easy miles based on hr, and I was able to run way more volume then before. I also incorporated a lot of track work for my speed sessions which helped a ton. I did 3 weeks >70 miles and peaked at 75 miles 4 weeks before the race. I did a 3 week taper where I ran 60 miles, 50 miles, then 22 miles before the race. I also took no real rest days at all, running 2 miles at VERY easy pace on my “rest days”. I’m psyched on a run streak right now so that’s why my rest days involved running.
Pre-race
My wife and I drove to San Diego from Vegas Friday so we would have the entire day before the race to just chill out. I think that was a smart move so we felt relaxed and not rushed the day before the race. We did a shakeout run Friday when we arrived and again Saturday morning the day before the race. Both shakeout runs incorporated a few strides.
Race
This race went AMAZING! My rough strategy was to negative split. I made a rule that in the first half I would not go faster than 6:40 miles no matter what. It took a lot of restraint to hold back with people passing me but for the first time in a race the running felt easy. I kept checking my hr and was amazed at how low it was staying. Around mile 16 other runners started to slow and something in me just changed. I started running faster. The second half of the marathon is very up hill for many miles, with a mile and a half uphill that comes at mile 22. It didn’t matter. I was flying. I recently listened to a podcast with David Goggins and he talked about taking souls and I turned that into my motto. Everyone I passed I was taking souls. I don’t think anyone passed me from mile 13 onward. The last 2.5 miles are downhill and they were my fastest miles by far. I never hit the wall and was smiling from start to finish.
Nutrition
I was much more deliberate in my nutrition this race. I had water at every water station, and Gatorade (supplied on course) at every other station in addition to the water.
Start line: honey stinger chews
Mile 4: SIS gel
Mile 8: SIS gel
Mile 12: Gu roctane
Mile 16: SIS gel
Mile 19: Maureen Caffeinated gel
Mile 22: SIS gel
Post-race
I am so so stoked with how this race went. I managed to get 28th overall and 8th in my age group (I’m 29). The big take away is that marathons can be fun if you race them smart. Sticking to a pace and strategy pays dividends later in the race. I’m excited to continue to see where I can take running and to bring strategy to all future marathons.

Have you guys ever had a weird order or what seemed to be an incomplete order? I just got one recently from Firehouse Subs, for a Large orange Fanta drink, that’s it. And the tip was $7.
I feel like whoever ordered this intended to also order a sub but somehow missed that they accidentally removed it from their cart. Should I have said something about it? I just delivered their drink and took my tip they left me.

Trigger warning: this story has a distasteful element ('Coprophilia') which may bother some readers.
The Earth bore little resemblance to its former self. At least not from the standpoint of what humanity had achieved previously. First the global economy collapsed. As a result, the intimately-connected world we knew was no more. Cities were abandoned. Interpersonal relationships devolved into clan-style family units working together for the basic goal of mutual survival. Sometimes brutally. In just a few years, the priceless wealth of technological knowledge which has been accumulated since the dawn of time, almost completely disappeared.
Predictably, without six millennia of scientific advancement and evolving civility, came revolving waves of disease and premature death. The world’s population dwindled to just a fraction of its former numbers. Our potential for understanding remained, but the desire to flex the intellectual muscles for higher-learning, took a back seat to the daily imperative of simply surviving. There was no time to pursue education when a neighboring clan might try to kill you or seize your food stores at any moment. In only a few generations, 80% of the ’common knowledge’ from the pinnacle of civilization, was unknown to the average person.
Consuming ignorance dutifully filled the void left behind by the collapse. Hunger and the ugliest of primal emotions drove human behavior far more than it had prior to the fall. Rampant starvation and unsanitary conditions were a potent one-two punch in the spiraling descent back to the dark ages. It led to a contemptible practice which would’ve been unthinkable only a half century earlier. The inability to distinguish between justifiable food choices, and ‘things which should never be ingested’.
No, I’m not referring to the abject inhumanity of cannibalism. The unapologetic consumption of human flesh wasn’t surprising in those stark times of desperation. I’m speaking of something far, far worse. The instinct to find feces distasteful was lost in the spiraling downfall of mankind. Those who were old enough to remember the golden era of civilization simply called those who partook in this practice: ‘SE’s. In plainer words, ‘Shiteaters’.
It wasn’t a particularly clever slur but the descriptive euphemism fit well enough. Being labeled that didn’t even qualify as an insult any longer for an entire class of depraved souls who saw no problem with the distasteful practice in the first place. They enthusiastically partook in the disgusting act of coprophilia, out of misguided necessity. Noting went… ahem, to ‘waste’.
Extreme hunger is a highly effective motivator for sure. It pushed them to work past the unpleasant stench and natural gag reflexes which would normally dissuade such abhorrent behavior. In certain unsophisticated circles, the excrement from well-fed scavenger individuals became a ‘delicacy’. Afterward, they were literally ‘full of shit’, if you can forgive the reoccurring string of foul puns.
Understandably, those who held onto some level of prior civility avoided the SE’s at all costs, lest the disgusting practice ahem… ‘rub off’ on them. Distasteful consumption details aside, As with any recycled substance, the level of vitamins, proteins and other nutrients deteriorate with each cycle. That is the law of diminishing returns. Eventually, regardless of portion size, the empty calories contained in their favorite ‘dish’ was no longer enough to sustain regular development.
With the serious level of nutritional deficiency in their daily diet came the side effects of severe physiological and psychological issues. Their intellectual capacity diminished rapidly. In just a short time they lost the ability to speak. For all intents and purposes, they devolved into a lower life form of violent, sub-primates. If a scientific community still existed in academia to label them, they might’ve named this transitory species, ‘Homo coprophilis’.
Despite their diminished cerebral capabilities, they bred in voracious numbers and made up the majority of hominids scavenging the world. Because of their sheer prevalence in numbers, it didn’t matter if they could be individually outwitted. There were too many of them in the wild to completely avoid. If non SE’s were captured by them, they were lucky if they were only held in cages for feces harvesting or forced breeding stock. There were far worse fates possible in the SE dens.
Our community remained lucky for many years. I educated my people the best I could from what remained of books and educational materials. The few brushes we had with the cave dwelling troglodytes were thankfully rare, and led to fortunate outcomes. Sadly, that was all about to change. While we tried to be self-sufficient, we had to go outside our security zone on occasions to get necessary supplies which we couldn’t produce internally. The more frequently we left the relative safely of our compound, the higher risk level we brought upon ourselves.
Their numbers had exploded. They were everywhere and it was only a matter of time before they discovered our tiny little ‘oasis of progress’ and attacked us. My scouts knew better than to retreat back to the compound if they realized they’d been observed. Like a trail of ants, the SE’s would follow them here and find our idyllic home and destroy everything. I believed at the time that the best outcome of any battle was to avoid it completely.
We ‘booby-trapped’ a few pseudo entrances to discourage accidental discoveries, but our biggest danger was to be observed and followed back home. I guess we just took the risk of going outside the compound too many times, or simple ‘dumb luck’ occurred. Either way, they found our home while I was away with my team. We’d spent too much effort in avoiding detection, and not enough planning a defense. Our community was unprepared for an on-site conflict; and with half our most able-bodied warriors on the mission, we took heavy losses. Both in terms of loss of life, and having our remaining people taken prisoner.
My wife was eaten alive right on the spot; while two of my younger children were taken away. Presumably for later consumption, but infinitely worse fates were possible. I shuddered at the thought of what she went through, and what horrors awaited my little ones. The SE’s take immense pleasure in seizing non SE’s and torturing them for being more evolved. They pride themselves in being ignorant and primitive. Furious vengeance boiled in my heart. I wanted to act immediately but I was well aware that raw passion clouds judgement. No matter how anxious I was to save my children and wipe the disgusting scum from the Earth, I had to do it in a meticulous, organized way. The survivors of our village needed a solid plan to strike back.
I gathered every weapon we had at our disposal and assembled our weary band of survivors. Others present in the meeting lost family members too. I had to stop them from rushing to the shiteater cave on a suicide mission. I cooled their rage and tempered my own until we were all better prepared for battle. How do you fight an enemy with no honor? How can you approach a conflict where there is no reason to be had? To suggest it would be a war with ‘apes’ would be an insult to those primates.
Previously I thought the SE’s were a product of the collapse of civilization. Obviously I feared their enthusiastic embrace of primal ignorance but mostly, I just pitied them. If there was one reoccurring theme of universal failure in the remaining history books it was how war is pointless. I hoped to avoid them. As a fellow survivor in the collapse, I tried to coexist. To live and let live but it became glaringly clear they could not be left alive. None of them, or there would never be peace or prosperity for the thinking population. They were a wretched branch of homo sapien species that needed to be permanently snuffed out.
I rallied our reluctant fighters, both men and woman, young and old, able bodied and infirm, to boldly seize the moment. It was our time! It was the human race’s moment to reverse the spiraling collapse. We had to snuff-out the willfully ignorant, sub-human slime holding us back permanently, or there would never be a return to hope and enlightenment. Everyone present accepted the calling. We were going to stop being frightened little sheep. We were committed to fight to the death, but we were also going to do so with technical wisdom and science.
Almost like a grain silo, SE’s were known to keep their fecal ‘food’ stores in a central storage bin. They guarded them almost like bank currency. Their entire community revolved around the supply of manure, so strategically it would be in the center of their caves and living space. More than once, these methane-laden storage areas had been known explode from natural gas build-up and wipe out clans. As a previous pacifist in my worldview and outlook, I’d never considered destroying them with their own storehouse of shit before, but the idea was more than novel in its charm. It was almost poetic in scope.
The only problem lied in the collateral damage to our survivors. How could we get our beloved family members back before annihilating their cave and destroying the sub human vermin? I researched non-lethal means of incapacitating every soul inside so we could rescue our loved ones first. In a medical textbook I’d saved from being burned as fireplace fodder, was a detailed article on anesthesia. Not only did it explain how it worked, but it also offered the chemical compounds necessary to produce it.
As the ‘minister of science’ of our progressive community, I had always tried to keep knowledge alive and maintain a base level of education for our citizens. I taught the children basic chemistry and math, among other things. We had amassed a decent supply of chemicals taken from the crumbling warehouses of the once-great cities near our settlement. It was finally time to put them to use. From those supplies I filled up two canisters of nitrous oxide. My scouts located their lair, and we cautiously amassed there for the extraction and extermination.
Under the cover of darkness we blew the ‘knock-out’ gas into the entrance and waited until they were hopefully incapacitated. Into the lion’s den we crept. The stench of body odor and decay was nearly unbearable. The plan unfolded perfectly. Those we encountered were either unconscious or unresponsive to ordinary stimuli. One by one we dispatched the sub human monsters. There was very little resistance until we reached portions of the cave which our ‘sleeping potion’ didn’t reach. There we experienced some desperate fighting but in the end, we were victorious.
At the center of the dark labyrinth we located the cages and ‘food storage’ area. Thankfully, many of our people and my youngest children were still alive. Sadly not all were physically unharmed and there was no undoing the SE’s carnage and unspeakable acts. I wanted to scream when I witnessed the inhuman atrocities perpetrated on our most innocent but I had to maintain my composure and complete the mission. We carried all the survivors to safety and rigged a time-delayed fuse for explosion at the entrance.
I wasn’t sure how many of the clan were left further back within the cave, but when the methane finally ignited, it was the most powerful man-made explosion in nearly fifty years. Of that I’m sure. The mouth of the cave was permanently closed. Nothing could’ve survived the blast. That was highly reassuring but the vindication I felt was only for the eradication of a single shiteater clan. Globally, there were probably hundreds of others. More importantly though, our little operation to take back humanity was finally underway.
It was day one in the march to rebuild civilization. I discovered other pockets of learning and progress along the way as we explored the larger world. Our small community and the others banded together with the universal goal of wiping out primal clans and rebuilding the infrastructure of the Earth. With a unified group of people worldwide endeavoring to return to a brighter future, we collectively left behind the darkness and despair. Hope has finally returned. It’s a great time to be alive again.

Training
My main goals after coming off of a 01:39:00 half marathon training block were to increase my mileage (in this case, kilometerage?) and introduce more speed sessions. My plan was to build up to a peak of around 40-50KMs per week and sustain that for ten weeks before a two-week taper leading up to the race. I didn't follow any particular plan, but I used the principles of the Lydiard method to divide my training block into smaller focused sections. After a few weeks of base-building, I redesigned my training plan to incorporate all of the important sections (base/speed/hills) into each week, as building up safely from my previous average mileage of 15 kilometers per week would reduce the likelihood that my body would see any benefit from the late speed/hill training additions. After a while, I removed the hill training sessions and changed them to another base-building run, as the area I train in is quite hilly. I also included a training run at a half-marathon distance with a goal of 01:34:59 to see how much the training had helped halfway through. Even though I had, for the first time, a decently mapped out plan, my training block went absolutely terribly. I only sustained a peak mileage of 29KM for three weeks before notching up a grand total of 24KMs (around 15mi) in the six weeks leading up to the training. While other aspects of my life were grateful, I was feeling very, very under-prepared. However, the elevation chart for the race had less elevation changes than a 5KM run near my home, so I was fairly confident that at least the hills wouldn't destroy me.
Pre-race
I arrived at the start line well before the start time as Cork happens to be in the top one hundred most congested cities in the world, and the fancy collection of road closures would certainly not help alleviate this. I decided to run the HM in the Hoka Mach 5, and this was a very easy decision for me. They are my only running shoes. My nutrition plan prior to the race was to have a light breakfast and then take one gel around 40 mins before the firing of the horn, and then another at 50 mins into the race. I had bought a box of High-5 Energy Gel Aquas in the orange flavour when I first started running, but I'm sorry to say that I have become completely allergic to them. Even though I appreciate the consistency, the taste has just become absolutely disgusting and I find that as I consume more my stomach becomes less fond of them. They do now happen to be two months out of date, which could have exacerbated the issue, but I suppose that's how hard they have been for me to consume. My budget told me they were the best option, but my tastebuds and stomach have since disagreed. I lined up at the sub-90 mins marker and eagerly awaited the arrival of the pacers, as I decided that I would follow them rather than my watch. Unfortunately for me, my ability to be a pacer for my own race is just not there.
Race
The first 6 kilometers were just as every other race has been for me. My adrenaline levels were high, I was enjoying actually starting from a position where I could see the start line from the firing of the horn for once, and I was comfortably keeping up with the pacer. I felt very strong since my breathing felt nice and relaxed, whereas in training runs it can feel like being thrown into cold water sometimes... a bit of a panicked shock before settling down after the first 2 kilometers or so.
By the 7th kilometer, as the course started to undergo some elevation changes, so too did my confidence. During these next 5 or so kilometers, even though I managed to keep up with the pacer, I was working harder and this caused me to question my ability to see out the race in the sub-90 pace group. By the 10th kilometer, with still just more than halfway to go, I was seriously considering pulling back and waiting for the 1:40 pacer balloons to run past me so I could join them. However, I decided to keep going and try and stick with the pacer. While the local support throughout the course was a bit more sparse than other races I have done, I really enjoyed getting sprayed with water guns, and these little things really kept me going through the toughest portion of the race. I was also appreciative to have some sports drinks at the water stations that I could substitute for my expired gels.
After the 12th kilometer, we were getting past the worst of the small hills (and the hills in general). I had managed to stick with the pacer through all of the mental challenges of the previous 5 kilometers, and while I was still working harder than the first 6 kilometers, I was feeling much more in control and confident that I could maintain my desired pace for the remainder of the race.
Once we turned a corner around the 16th kilometer and I saw a straight 2KM stretch back into the city center, my mental stamina just dissipated into the heat of the day. I have generally no problem navigating through turns and rolling hills because there's at least some variation and unpredictability. However, seeing that straight road stretch as far as I could see caused my legs to slow down and slowly the balloon of the pacer started to slip further and further ahead, even though physically I probably could've kept up for a bit more, my mind decided that it was enough for today. With the heat, and the long stretch of road ahead, I slowed down to a walking pace to recover for a bit before starting to run again. I checked my watch and a PB was still on the cards. As the last few kilometers slowly ticked by, the prospect of getting a PB kept me going. My adrenaline levels picked up as onlookers lined the streets of the city center. Not only was it nice to have the streets empty of cars, but I felt like some sort of professional athlete having a large portion of the city watching you cross the finish line. Seeing 01:32:58 on the electronic board at the finish line as I rounded the final bend gave me enough energy to power through the last hundred meters, before the relief of finishing kicked in. I was probably more relieved to see the granola bars just past the finish line though.
Post-race
I was thrilled with getting a PB and placing within the top 200 overall and top 20 within my category, which I was really surprised by. I'm still somewhat pondering what I could have achieved had my training been more consistent, especially having hit a nice half-marathon time in training, but it seems the heat was really affecting everyone as I normally place around 400-700 overall. Even though towards the last five or so kilometers it was apparent my goal pace was slipping ahead of me, I kept going and tried to do my best to finish. One of my biggest running philosophies is/was to just not stop, even if you really want to (unless something is hurting of course!), because usually it's just your mind trying to convince you to quit even when you can do it. Well, I still agree with it in principle but can no longer preach what I don't practice I guess. I learned during the race that slowing to walk is totally okay, once you cross the finish line running! My mental stamina was really challenged, but I enjoy this aspect of running because even though it's torture at times, you're competing against yourself, which is quite rare in sports. I'm going to take a week off to recover before starting a new training block but first I need to design the new training block. I'm going to follow a pre-made plan this time as I also learned that homebrew plans don't really work (well, maybe if I'm more consistent). My focus is now shifting to another HM in October, and hopefully with better training (or realistically, some fancy new carbon-plated racers) I will finally hit my goal of running a sub-90 HM. Any advice (besides picking up some better gels and increasing mileage) would be really helpful and highly appreciated!

2023.06.04 18:17 TheSandwichMeat How many people would it take to eat a planet sized meatball?
This is absolutely pushing the limits of this sub, as this absolutely IS a stupid question but Idc.
Let's say there's a fully cooked, not at all spoiling, not at all affecting gravity or causing issues with Earth or the Moon or the satellites in any way, planet sized meatball just by the upper atmosphere for people to eat. This meatball is also somehow nutritionally perfect, so everyone can exclusively consume parts of it for their entire life if they wanted. How long would it be up there, before humanity would finish it?

2023.06.04 16:57 wanna_get_better F23 4'11 147lbs / 150cm 66kg - Feeling a little lost
Hi guys,
I love how healthy and inspiring this community is. I always come back to it because I admire everyone on this sub so much, wherever you are in your journey.
I know I need to see a therapist and will start again tomorrow. Right now I do feel like sharing with people I know will understand.
To make it short I started struggling with my weight at the age of 11, and I actually became overweight and developed a very toxic relationship with food after being exposed to beauty standards and body shaming in the media.
I had shitty teenage years and fast forward to now, I am mentally better than I have ever been since then, though still I still am an insecure and anxious person. My relationship with food is still unhealthy but not nearly as obsessive as it used to be.
Summer break just started after an intensive year in grad school, and I am able to think about my body, health and weight again. Within this struggle of over 10 years I have seen many professionals and read a lot on BED, nutrition, meditation and so on.
Yet in this very moment I feel that no matter how hard I try, I will not be able to shake off these 20+lbs / 10kg for now. I just always end up falling into my old ways again. And it makes me so sad, because it's responsible for most of my insecurities, and I know I would feel so much better about everything at a healthier weight. It's hard to explain, and I know it's related to other things in my life that make me feel like a loser all the time (lack of organization and discipline in my life and work).
Can anyone relate, or is it just me? I don't know what to do anymore. Is it really that I will not be able to lose weight before I come to terms with the way I look currently? Should I just be patient and accept that it might take 10 more years? Or do I just lack willpower and need to address that?

2023.06.04 15:11 canis_lupus_arcticus My back and shoulder pain mostly disappeared!
So I will share a success story as per the topic of this sub, that I had after I transitioned to carnivore diet, and I'm only in week 3 so far.
I have many health issues, which I tried to naturally heal with carnivore diet, but one of the most annoying one is my back and shoulder problems. I have been officially diagnosed with dorsal discopathy (spinal cord discs are too compressed) and osteophytosis in my shoulder (tiny bone deformations) and has been very painful. I could barely sleep on my side, constant pain, discomfort, jolts of pain when I moved my arm, stiff arms and the rest of it. It's an extremely annoying condition because I constantly have to move my body to find a comfortable position to sleep or to sit in, otherwise my muscles get cramped and it would hurt. Now the spinal cord problem is probably not due to diet since I had it from a young age, and went to physiotheraphy multiple times as a kid, it's either genetic or due to my mostly sedentary lifestyle (I literally didn't do any sports until highschool), mostly sitting in front of my computer. However my shoulder problems are somewhat recent and I have a strong suspicion that developed due to my diet.
Now before I went to carnivore I was eating a very heavy carb based diet, which initially included meat and fats but later on I messed up my liver and I could eat less and less fat so I almost became a vegetarian by the time I transitioned. On top of that I ate sugar like crazy, every day a can of soda a chocolate bar, and all sorts of sweet pastry, cakes, and I was shoving in chocolate muffins like crazy. So my blood sugar was probably higher than Mount Everest. I also ate junk food all the time, fast food with extreme carbs, and pre-made meals with was more and more vegetarian like mushroom pasta with rice. I was lazy to cook, because at least when I cooked I did from time to time some schnitzels with eggs, but at that point I was basically a vegetarian. My back and shoulder problems was of course getting worse and worse, the aching and constant inflammation was getting unbearable so much that there was a point when I couldn't even lift my arm up above my elbow. Physically there was no more or less injury, it's just the inflammation of my muscles and tendons that made it more painful.
It was so bad that I eventually went to the doctor, even though I am skeptical about the medical establishment in general and prefer natural remedies, but I had no choice now because the pain was so bad. So I did all the analyses, radiography, MRI, reflex tests,etc.. And basically that was my diagnosis. The doctor said that my condition is not that bad objectively, so it doesn't require surgery, but there is also not much they can do about it aside from more physio and some anti-inflammation drugs (they prescribed a weak one I should take regularly and a strong one on occasions when the pain is bad). So that was about it.
Of course the doctor never asked anything about my diet, they asked about my work history (if I got injured from work or whatnot) and just the standard questions, but never asked as single question about my diet. Now I am not blaming my doctor for anything, they did their job, by the book, and they are specialists in neurology, so it's not really their business to ask about my nutrition. It's just funny how certain doctors focus on 1 thing but don't view this as a holistic problem, as if there is no connection between diet and health, illnesses just fall down from the sky, they don't have causes. I believe it's also not professional to ask about seemingly offtopic things, because it might go against medical code of conduct, like you don't bully alcoholics with questions about why they destroyed their liver, you as a doctor only treat the disease you have, and don't ask questions. Kind of a sad state of things in the official medical establishment. Again I am not blaming my doctor for this, it's rather the system that is the problem.
So I became a carnivore, for multiple reasons, but this one was one of it, after I learned about sugar<>inflammation connections. And guess what, my inflammation went down just after the first 5 days. Now I am on the 3rd week and things are looking good so far. Now my illness is not healed, make no mistake, I still have to do physio, and occasionally I still get the never pinch, but as far as the inflammation in my shoulder, it's basically gone, and I haven't took a single pill. All the pills that was prescribed to me were anti-inflamation drugs, taken only when needed, but I don't need them now because the inflammation is gone, so is my gum inflammation by the way. My pain was worse than my actual physical injury, due to the inflammation caused by sugar. I eliminated all sugar and the inflammation was gone.
But wait it get's better:
SUGAR LITERALLY BLOCKS THE ABSORBTION OF CALCIUM!!!!
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6140170/ https://nutritionj.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12937-021-00698-1 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5588311/ https://blog.algaecal.com/dangers-sugar-bone-health-addictive-cocaine/ My condition, together with osteoporosis and osteoarthritis were very much linked to diabetes and high sugar consumption! So it's not just that my inflammation and pain was caused by sugar, but the very condition itself and the bone deformation is caused by sugar blocking calcium absorbtion and damaging my bones.
