In this article, we will discuss ten essential things to consider before buying an elevator, with valuable tips from Teknix Elevators, one of the leading elevator companies in India, specifically in Bangalore and Hyderabad.
Safety Features:
Safety should be the foremost priority when choosing an elevator. Look for residential lifts in Bangalore that comply with international safety standards and regulations. Ensure that the elevator is equipped with features such as emergency stop buttons, interlocks, safety sensors, and fire-rated doors to protect passengers in the event of an emergency.
Space and Capacity:
Evaluate the available space in your building to determine the appropriate size and capacity of the elevator. Consider the number of passengers it needs to accommodate, as well as the size and weight of potential users, including those with disabilities. Teknix Elevators, known for manufacturing the best home elevators in Bangalore, offers customizable options to suit diverse requirements.
Energy Efficiency:
Choose an elevator that is energy-efficient to reduce your carbon footprint and operational costs. Look for elevators equipped with energy-saving technologies such as LED lighting, regenerative drives, and standby mode to conserve energy when not in use.
Maintenance and Service:
Consider the availability of maintenance and service support from the elevator company. Opt for companies like Teknix Elevators, which have a reputation for providing prompt and reliable after-sales service. Regular maintenance is crucial for the smooth operation and longevity of the elevator.

Compliance with Accessibility Standards:
If you require an elevator for a building that needs to be accessible to people with disabilities, ensure that the elevator complies with accessibility standards such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or the National Building Code (NBC) of India. These standards govern features like cabin size, button placement, and handrail height.
Reliability and Durability:
Invest in an elevator that is reliable and built to last. Look for reputable elevator companies in Hyderabad and Bangalore known for their quality and durability. Check customer reviews and testimonials to gain insights into the reliability and longevity of their products.
Future Expansion:
Consider the potential need for future expansion or modernization. Choose an elevator system that allows for easy upgrades and integration of advanced technologies. This future-proofing approach ensures that your elevator can adapt to changing needs and technological advancements.
Budget and Cost:
Evaluate your budget and consider the long-term cost implications of owning and maintaining an elevator. While price is a factor, prioritize the overall value and quality of the elevator system rather than solely focusing on upfront costs. A reliable and well-maintained elevator will provide a better return on investment in the long run.
When purchasing an elevator, it is crucial to carefully consider factors such as safety features, space and capacity, energy efficiency, maintenance and service, customization options, noise and vibration reduction, compliance with accessibility standards, reliability and durability, future expansion possibilities, and budget.

You can choose a telescopic foldable ladder with an adjustable height once you've determined the highest height you need to reach.

Weight Capacity:

You should also take the collapsible ladder's weight capacity into account to make sure it can securely handle both your weight and the number of objects you are carrying. Having too much weight on one's person increases the risk of accidents and injury. As a result, bear this in mind while selecting a multi-purpose portable industrial ladder.

Industrial-grade extension ladders can be made from a variety of materials, including steel, aluminum, and fiberglass. The degree to which the suitable material can matter will depend on the user's planned use and the range of storage options. It is important to pay close attention to the material that best meets all requirements.

Due to its versatility, the telescopic folding ladder can be utilized both indoors and outside. Here, a telescopic ladder's portability—one of its main advantages—comes into play. A lightweight portable multi-purpose Industrial-grade extension ladder is simple to transport over long distances.

Safety equipment:

Whether a ladder is telescopic or not, safety should always come first. A simple disregard for safety could have negative consequences for the user. So it's a good idea to search for telescopic Ladders with safety features like locking mechanisms, non-slip rungs, and fixed feet.

Pick the Right Ladder:

It's important to pick the right High-capacity extension ladder for the job at hand. Think about things like weight capacity, material structure, and industrial-grade extension ladder height. Compared to regular ladders, an industrial-grade telescopic ladder is built to support big loads and provide more stability.

Inspect before use:

Before each use, check the collapsible ladder for the home for any signs of damage, like twisted rungs, broken rails, or loose connections. Verify the functionality of all parts, including the locks, hinges, and ropes. Never use a telescopic ladder that has been compromised structurally.

Placing it Carefully:

Place the Industrial-grade extension ladder on a solid, level surface and secure the base. Use stabilizers or telescopic ladder levelers as necessary to guarantee stability. By using the right foot pads or anchor points, you can secure the ladder's base. If you're working on uneven or slippery areas, think about using a telescopic ladder stability device.

Set the Right Angle:

Place the Portable Ladder at a 75-degree angle for maximum stability. This entails setting the Industrial-grade extension ladder's base one-quarter of the working length from the wall or other support structure.

User Biomechanics:

Apply the 3-Point Contact Rule by keeping two feet and one hand, or one foot and two hands, in constant contact with the Telescopic Ladder while maintaining a strong grasp with both hands. This method offers stability and lowers the chance of falling.

Extend the Telescopic Ladder Correctly:

Adhere to the manufacturer's recommendations when extending an Industrial-grade extension ladder. Before climbing, make sure the locks are securely in place. To extend the ladder smoothly and safely, use the rope and pulley system, if it is there.

Avoid Overreaching:

Never stretch yourself too far while using a telescopic ladder because doing so compromises stability and ups the chance of falling. Rather, adjust the ladder as necessary to preserve the correct 3-point contact and keep your body centered between the rails of the aluminum ladder.

Secure the Top and Bottom:

Use fixed attachments like hooks or ropes to tie the top of the Industrial-grade extension ladder to the supporting structure to increase stability. Additionally, if at all possible, employ appropriate bracing to stop any movement by stabilizing the Telescopic Ladder's base with a coworker or by yourself.

Consider the Weight Capacity:

Industrial-grade extension ladders have ratings for their weight capacities. Before using the telescopic Ladder, consider the worker's total weight along with the weight of their tools and equipment. The integrity of the ladder may be harmed and accidents may result from exceeding the weight restriction.

Keep Your Balance and Posture Correct:

When ascending or descending the Industrial-grade extension ladder or working from it, keep your balance and posture correct. Avoid leaning or leaning too far to one side with your body centered. Be sure to step slowly and deliberately, and distribute your weight evenly.

Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):

To safeguard yourself from potential risks when working on an Industrial-grade extension ladder, put on the proper PPE, such as non-slip boots, a hard hat, eye protection, and gloves.
Ensure that all employees who use industrial-grade Telescopic Ladder are properly trained in ladder safety procedures and are informed of the most recent best practices. Hold regular safety meetings and periodically update training.

2023.06.02 07:31 redditNoobski Best SUV (midsized or otherwise) for Turo in New England city

I want to buy a new(ish) suv for two reasons: 1) to try renting it out on Turo and see if how viable it is as a personal business/ if I can make enough money to justify the maintenance, cleaning expenses, and depreciation 2) so that I have a good car ready to go when my current car craps out
I drive a 2005 Toyota Highlander. Still runs like a dream but it’s approaching 220k miles and eventually all good things must come to pass. I rented a car through Turo on a ski trip out west this winter and was super impressed with the platform. What car should I get? Does Turo provide data on the cars that rent the best in a given area/part of the country? Any advice would appreciated! 🤗🤗

2023.06.02 07:08 aceswild8 Help Finding a Good Mechanic Near Paradise - Radiator, Front Lights Repair and Body Work

Hello guys, I need your help.
I have a (2012) KIA Rio EX. This car has been very good to me. This past March, I spent almost 3k on an essential part it needed, some exhaust work, maintenance, and new tires.
Two days ago I was in the parking lot of my work, on my break, around the corner of our building. When I was due to return to work, I started to turn my car around and instantly, a company van smacked my passenger side front.
The guy just blew his driver's side back tire which was replaced and off he went.
We didn't call the police but we exchanged all the required documentation.
Basically, he bashed my front bumper off, the lights, damaged the radiator and the hood. The car starts up fine like nothing happened. The radiator is obviously leaking slowly but I was able to drive it home - carefully.
On a side note, I have been a Geico customer for 17 years. Never been with any other insurance company for my cars. Literally 8 days before this happened, Geico told me I didn't require Collision coverage due to the age of my car and mileage. So I took it off and then this accident happens.
Geico will not help me, period. I tried every angle I could to see if they could do anything to support me with the repair process. No, nothing. I was told they have rules they cannot break. Yeah, I get it... but as a customer of 17 years who literally just took Collision off my policy - as suggested by Geico itself - the 32 billion dollar insurance entity will not offer any assistance whatsoever. I was so infuriated but I understand why I was denied, I understand how these massive corporations don't give a shit. I wish the laws would change the process of insurance companies in more favor of the policy holder who pays so much money for coverage over the years. But that’s never going to happen. It is what it is.
(Sorry for the long post) - I just wanted to ask you guys if you can recommend a fair and reasonable body + repair shop in or around the Paradise area?
I seriously need my car and have only Friday and Saturday to get it fixed. Otherwise, I will have to drive it to work with a gallon of water so I don't destroy my engine.
I have already gone online and called a few places but they were very dodgy. Also, I hear things about Vegas, like mechanics stealing parts off your car or the usual overcharging, etc...?
I appreciate any suggestions of where to take my car for the mechanical and body repair.
Thank you 😣

2023.06.02 06:31 Due-Drummer7504 22 Camry XSE - Huge drop in mpg

Hey everyone.
I have a 22 Camry xse that I bought brand new in 01/2022. Currently has 17k miles and I’ve always done the 5,000 mile interval maintenance. This is my second Toyota after my very first car was an 05 Corolla.
Normally, I get 27-30 mpg in the cooler months. This is in eco mode. Now in summer with the ac on, I’m getting 21 mpg in eco mode. That’s a 20 to 30 percent drop.
My previous car was an Altima. Booo I know. But during the summer, it was maybe a 10 percent drop with the ac on. Is this normal for Toyotas, or should I look deeper into a potential problem?

2023.06.02 04:12 Sophie_Moran What is laser skin tightening treatment and its benefits?

Laser skin tightening is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that uses laser technology to stimulate collagen production and improve the overall tightness and elasticity of the skin. It is primarily used to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin, particularly in areas such as the face, neck, and abdomen.
During the treatment, a laser device emits targeted beams of light that penetrate the deeper layers of the skin without damaging the surface. The heat generated by the laser stimulates the production of collagen, a protein that provides structure and firmness to the skin. As collagen levels increase, the skin becomes tighter, smoother, and more youthful in appearance.
Some benefits of laser skin tightening include:
  1. Tightening and firming of the skin: Laser treatment stimulates collagen production, leading to improved skin elasticity and firmness. It can help reduce the appearance of sagging skin, particularly around the jawline, neck, and abdomen.
  2. Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles: By stimulating collagen, laser skin tightening can diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, making the skin appear smoother and more youthful.
  3. Non-invasive procedure: Laser skin tightening is a non-surgical and non-invasive treatment, which means there are no incisions or extensive recovery periods involved. The procedure is generally comfortable and requires little to no downtime.
  4. Quick and convenient: Treatment sessions are typically short, lasting around 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the size and number of areas being treated. Multiple sessions may be recommended for optimal results.
  5. Minimal side effects: Laser skin tightening is generally considered safe, with minimal side effects. Some individuals may experience temporary redness, mild swelling, or a warm sensation in the treated area, but these effects usually subside quickly.
  6. Long-lasting results: While individual results may vary, many people experience long-lasting improvements in skin tightness and texture. However, it's important to note that the natural aging process will continue, so maintenance treatments may be necessary to sustain the results.
It's essential to consult with a qualified dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon to determine if laser skin tightening is suitable for your specific needs and to discuss the potential risks and benefits associated with the procedure.

Exploring the Fascinating World of Expanded Metal Mesh Facades
Let's share our newfound fascination with expanded metal mesh facades and discuss their incredible versatility and aesthetic appeal. If you haven't heard about them before, let me take you on a journey into the captivating world of these architectural wonders.

What are Expanded Metal Mesh Facades?

Expanded metal mesh facades are architectural elements made from sheets of metal that have been expanded through a process of cutting and stretching. The result is a mesh-like pattern with a variety of shapes, sizes, and open areas. These facades are often used to cover the exterior of buildings, providing a visually striking and functional solution.

Versatility and Customizability

One of the most remarkable aspects of expanded metal facade is their versatility. The material can be shaped, curved, and manipulated to fit virtually any architectural design, making it an ideal choice for both new constructions and renovations. Whether you're aiming for a contemporary, industrial, or even a futuristic look, expanded metal mesh facades can help you achieve your vision.

Aesthetic Appeal

Expanded metal mesh facades offer a unique visual appeal that sets them apart from other cladding materials. The mesh pattern allows for an interplay of light and shadow, creating a dynamic and ever-changing facade. Depending on the angle and intensity of the light, the appearance of the building can shift dramatically throughout the day, providing a captivating experience for both occupants and passersby.
Moreover, expanded metal sheet offers a level of transparency that allows natural light to penetrate the building while maintaining privacy and reducing solar heat gain. This characteristic is especially advantageous for large-scale structures, as it helps create an inviting and comfortable interior environment.

Functionality and Practicality

Apart from their aesthetic value, expanded metal mesh facades also offer several practical benefits. They act as a protective barrier, shielding the building from external elements such as wind, rain, and debris. The open area of the mesh allows for natural ventilation, aiding in energy efficiency and reducing the need for mechanical cooling systems. Additionally, the material is durable, corrosion-resistant, and requires minimal maintenance, making it a cost-effective long-term solution.

Expanded metal mesh facades offer a wide range of applications in the field of architecture. Here are some common uses where expanded metal mesh facades shine:
Commercial Buildings: Expanded metal mesh facades can transform the exterior of commercial buildings, such as office complexes, shopping centers, and hotels. The mesh can be customized to create unique patterns and textures, adding a contemporary and eye-catching aesthetic to the structure.
Cultural Institutions: Museums, art galleries, and theaters often utilize expanded metal mesh facades to create visually stunning and inviting exteriors. The transparency of the mesh allows for an interplay of light and shadow, enhancing the overall ambiance of these cultural spaces.
Sports Facilities: Stadiums, arenas, and sports centers can benefit from the functional and aesthetic qualities of expanded metal mesh facades. The mesh provides ventilation and natural light while offering a striking visual appearance that complements the dynamic nature of sports architecture.
Educational Institutions: Schools, colleges, and universities can incorporate expanded metal mesh facades to create modern and visually appealing campuses. The mesh can be used as sunshades, canopies, or even as decorative screens, adding both functionality and architectural interest.
Transportation Hubs: Airports, train stations, and bus terminals can utilize expanded metal mesh facades to create a sense of openness and connectivity. The transparency of the mesh allows passengers to have a clear view of the surroundings while maintaining the required security and privacy.
Public Spaces: Expanded metal mesh facades can enhance the beauty and functionality of public spaces such as parks, plazas, and urban squares. They can be used as decorative screens, pergolas, or artistic installations, adding an element of uniqueness and sophistication to the urban landscape.
Residential Buildings: From apartment complexes to individual houses, expanded metal mesh facades can be employed to create contemporary and visually appealing exteriors. They can be used as balconies, privacy screens, or even as part of landscaping, seamlessly blending the built environment with nature.
Renovations and Retrofits: Expanded metal mesh facades are an excellent choice for renovating or retrofitting existing structures. They can be installed directly over the existing façade, giving a fresh and modern look to the building while improving its energy efficiency and functionality.

How serious are these error codes?
2006 Hyundai Accent, 132k miles. I've had problems with his car and recently just had it fixed for two other things and I am pretty over the car in general. I really only have to use it for the next 2 months minimum and maybe the next 8 months maximum, is this really worth fixing? How problematic and serious are these? If it does need a fix, how much am I looking at?

2023.06.02 02:16 Boelthor "Even the greatest justice must start from somewhere small." (Penance Guide)

Penance is a 6* DPS Defender, and on top of that she's the 6* equivalent of one of my longtime favorite operators so I'm contractually obligated to write a guide for her. And she's also an operator who demands that you use her in a certain way; while doing so isn't difficult it can trip you up if you aren't conscious of this, so a guide will hopefully make it easy to avoid those pitfalls.

Basic Information

Penance is a 6* Juggernaut Defender, but the operator she's most similar to is Estelle--both of them are self-sufficient operators that actively profit from having more enemies. In fact, Penance's signature Barrier mechanic provides so much self-sustain that she can often go through an entire stage without losing even a single HP. As for her offense, she's the first operator to make good general use of recoil damage, and her direct damage output is nothing to scoff at either.

Offensive Stats

Penance has high Attack, a 1.6 second attack interval, okay dps, and a standard 1x2 range. Most of Penance's offense comes from her talents and skills, but high Attack means her basic attacks don't have many problems with armor.

Defensive Stats

Penance has extremely high HP, high Defense, 10 Res, and 3 block. When she was released Penance had the highest base HP of any operator, and her overall bulk is among the highest in the game.

Cost and Trust

Penance costs a massive 36 DP, making her the most expensive operator in the game alongside Mudrock. Her trust bonus is more offensive compared to her predecessor, giving her 600 HP and 40 Attack.

Trait: Cannot be healed by allies

Penance cannot be directly healed by anyone except for herself. Regen-based healing still works.
Penance, unlike Mudrock, has no self-healing in her kit; if she loses HP she's only getting it back via regen or redeployment. Ideally her Barrier will prevent her from losing HP in the first place so this isn't much of a downside, and she has plenty of HP to spare, but it can occasionally causes problems.

First talent: Guardian of the Law

After deployment, immediately gains a Barrier equal to 50% Max HP; When defeating an enemy, gains a Barrier equal to 10% Max HP (Cannot exceed 300% Max HP)
Effectively, Barrier is bonus HP that does not count towards the normal maximum HP, is lost before "real" HP, and can only be restored by effects that explicitly grant Barrier. It's represented graphically as a lighter blue section on the HP bar, placed between the normal blue of current HP and the empty black of missing HP.
The key to Penance's survivability, Barrier scales off of her enormous max HP to turn her into a enormous HP sponge, capping out at 13,965 Barrier for 18,620 effective HP. Generating Barrier on kills has its pros and cons; on one hand cannon fodder will only improve her bulk, on the other hand she has to worry about kill-stealing and doesn't do as well if 1v1ing elites. That said, if there's so little cannon fodder in a lane you should probably be using a Musha or some other kind of duelist, so it doesn't interfere too much with Penance's intended usage. Kill-stealing also isn't a huge issue, as Penance is built to solo lanes anyway.

Second talent: Wreathed in Thorns

Each time this unit is attacked while under the effect of her own Barrier, deals 50% Attack as Arts damage to the attacker
Previous operators with recoil damage had various shortcomings that left it as a situational thing, be it low recoil damage (that if physical struggled with Defense due to low dph), no damage outside of recoil, or low uptime. Penance, however, has none of these problems: her recoil damage is strong (and as Arts won't care about Defense), her basic attacks still do appreciable damage (and she has her skills on top of them), and her recoil damage is almost always active (denoted by the conspicuous golen aura). Since recoil activates per enemy it's effectively AoE, making handling hordes of cannon fodder and accumulating Barrier that much easier, and letting Penance focus her own attacks on bigger threats. Another advantage is that recoil damage will apply to drones as well, giving Penance potential antiair capabilities. Plus recoil has no range limitation and bypasses Invisibility, making Penance a counter to a variety of annoying enemies.

First skill: Last Word

At m3{m0} Last Word has 0 initial SP, costs 3{4} SP, recovers SP over time, can be Charged, lasts for a single attack, and is automatically activated. It causes the affected attack to deal an additional hit of Arts damage equal to 200%{180%} of Penance's Attack. Charged: The affected attack deals 200%{180%} damage (only applies to the base physical damage) and Stuns the target for 5{3} seconds.
Charged: Can continue recovering SP after reaching the maximum. When SP reaches double the maximum, enter Charged state. Skills have additional effects when activated in Charged state (All SP is consumed whenever skill is activated)
UnCharged, s1 is a simple afk skill that doesn't have much use. The Charged version, on the other hand, is a top-tier crowd control skill--if you can get Penance to cast it. The catch is that due to being auto activation, as long as an eligible target is in range while Penance has filled her first SP bar but not her second she'll cast the much weaker unCharged version. Because of this, the Charged version is normally relegated to opening engagements. The real value of the skill is in its ability to combo with skills that inflict Sleep or Levitate, which render the target invalid and lets Penance Charge her s1 for a potential infinite cc lock. But there aren't many situations where this is both feasible and useful, so s1 is just a footnote to her kit.

Second skill: Stoic Atonement

At m3{m0} Stoic Atonement has 20{14} initial SP, costs 30{34} SP, recovers SP over time, lasts 20 seconds, and is manually activated. Penance stops attacking enemies, gains 60%{50%} Sanctuary, increases Barrier gain from talent 1 by 100%{80%}, and deals 140%{110%} Arts damage to all ground enemies within a 3x3 square centered on her every second (unaffected by ASPD).
Sanctuary: Reduce Physical and Arts damage taken by the stated percentage (Does not stack, strongest effect takes precedence).
The high Sanctuary s2 provides makes Penance ludicrously bulky, acting as a x2.5 multiplier to her effective HP, and helping preserve the extra Barrier she generates during this skill. To illustrate, every kill while this skill active is worth 2,328 eHP, and if she manages to cap her Barrier she'll have a staggering 46,550 eHP! On the offensive side, the effective attack interval reduction and true AoE give it good dps for a melee Arts skill, and her recoil damage is still in effect as well. The 50s rotation is good as well, though having only 40% uptime is mildly disappointing.

Third skill: Trial of Thorns

At m3{m0} Trial of Thorns has 0 initial SP, costs 20{24} SP, recovers SP by getting hit, lasts 30 seconds, and is manually activated. Upon casting the skill Penance instantly gains Barrier equal to 130%{100%} of her max HP (caps at 300% max HP), and for the duration of the skill she gains +400%{+320%} Attack, +0.9s attack interval (giving her a 2.5s interval), and increased Taunt.
The first thing that jumps out in s3's description is the gargantuan +400% Attack, taking a max level Penance to 4,580 Attack. Even with the increased attack interval to reign in her dps somewhat, she still hits like a cannonball, tearing through armor like it's soggy tissue paper and ending the lives of weaker enemies with a single blow. But remember, her recoil damage scales off of her Attack, so with s3 up enemies attacking her are in for 2,290 Arts damage--and thanks to the Taunt, enemies will be attacking her if they have the opportunity. Trash mobs will vaporize on contact with her, and even most elites and bosses aren't getting away unscathed. S3 also generates a hefty chunk of Barrier, 6,052 HP worth at max level, offering great survivability as well.
S3's rotation deserves special attention; while I'm aware that defensive recovery is often seen as a drawback compared to auto recovery, HG seems to share that view and balances accordingly. Defrec skills typically have low SP costs compared to their power, and Penance's s3 is no exception--20 SP cost for 30s duration is amazing for average skills, let alone one this strong. But I think defrec is often an advantage, at least for block 3 units like Penance; defrec charges per enemy, and can even charge >1 SP/sec if there are enough enemies. Furthermore, defrec ties into Penance's overall kit: cannon fodders' attacks barely scratch her high Defense while giving her SP, and when they kill themselves via her recoil damage she gains more Barrier than she lost in the first place, making them pure profit.

Penance, Mudrock, and the Missing 6*

How Penance compares to Mudrock is a common question, and while I don't plan to go into much depth on the topic, I will give some info. The biggest difference, imo, is that Mudrock is more defensive while Penance is more offensive. Mudrock's damage output is mostly propped up by her AoE and her bulk allowing her to stall many enemies indefinitely; if you ever have Mudrock 1v1ing a bulky enemy you'll be waiting a long time. Penance, on the other hand, can use s3 to demolish a single enemy, but her Barrier doesn't naturally regenerate like Mudrock's Shields, and she doesn't fare nearly as well against slow but hard hits. Mudrock being easier to use is a point that gets brought up, but imo most of that is simply the difference between Mudrock s2's autoactivation and Penance s2/s3's manual activation. You do have to pay more attention when positioning Penance so she gets enough fodder and doesn't have to worry about kill-stealing, but with a 36 DP cost she's typically not getting deployed until you've gotten a general idea of what lanes will have fodder, and in exchange for not being as much of a team player Penance has a higher ceiling on her solo performance. In conclusion, the answer is simply that they're different, and both are strong enough to be worthwhile. That said, I do think that comparing Penance to Mudrock just because they're both 6* Juggernauts is approaching Penance from the wrong angle.
Let's change the subject, and talk about Arts Protectors. The first Arts Protector, Dur-nar, released ~3.5 years ago at the time this guide was written, and to my great sorrow there's still no 6\ Arts Protector (only Sentinel Protectors have gone longer with no 6*). Penance may be a Juggernaut but both s2 and her recoil provide a substantial Arts damage output, while s3's sheer dph lets her tear through Defense similar to Arts. Thus, Penance is the closest thing there is to the long awaited 6* Arts Protector. Most melee units with substantial Arts damage either only block 1 (like Arts Guards) or are squishy (like Broca); apart from Arts Protectors and Penance the only units who don't compromise on at least one of those are Lappland, the upcoming Qiubai, Ling's s3 dragons, and if we count true damage s3 Mon3tr. Even among Arts Protectors, Dur-nar is held back by 4* stats, Asbestos is an attempted jack-of-all-trades who fails at almost all of them (especially damage output), Shalem is powerful but his s2's self-damage compromises his bulk, and Czerny is a weird recoil-centric unit who seems to have forgotten that most enemies who deal Arts damage also have high Res. There's simply very little competition for Penance's role, and what competitors she does have are either clearly inferior, not tanks even if they're not squishy, or cost multiple deploy slots (and have to deal with some drawbacks due to being summons). This gives Penance a lot of value simply because there are so few viable alternatives for her role, let alone good ones.
Now, how well this section ages will been seen if and when an actual 6* Arts Protector gets released; it's entirely likely that they'd have much more dps than Penance. That said, such an event is still 7+ months away even if said 6* Arts Protector would be announced tomorrow, so Penance still has plenty of time to enjoy her near monopoly. But even when that time comes, it'll only bring her one real competitor who probably won't have as much survivability as Penance. And on top of that, Penance is still one of the few operators fulfilling an even less populated role: melee Arts dps with self-sustain. Indra and Sideroca are the only other units to completely fit the bill, though if you're willing to bend and stretch the description you could also include s2 Utage (Arts is only via her on-deploy s2), Ling's s3 dragons (can't be healed but Ling can resummon them), s3 Mon3tr (true damage), X3 Specter2 (doll has good Arts dps provided Spec2 is dying enough), and s3 X3 Gladiia (s3 has good arts dps on light enemies). And don't forget, Penance is also the premier user of recoil damage, giving her another useful role where none of her few competitors even come close to her.
In short, while Penance is a Juggernaut and a solo laneholder, don't only look at her fromt hat perspective--think of her as an Arts dps as well.

Mastery Choices

Penance masteries are pretty simple, though m3, m6, and m9 are all valid.
S3 is the easy first pick; it's her primary skill and the reduced SP cost, +80% Attack, and extra Barrier are all important.
S1 is a simple choice to make: ignore it unless you have an interest in doing infinite cc locks with it, in which case m3 is mandatory.
S2 is where things are less clear-cut. While it does overlap with s3, the two skills have their own pros and cons, and s2's masteries are important if you plan on using it.
As for my personal opinion, I think s2 is worth mastering; while I'm a major advocate for defensive recovery, s2 can be a substantial improvement to Penance's versatility. And as mentioned above, Penance is filling a surprisingly unique role; it's hard to find a substitute for her s2 on other operators, so mastering it gives you options you otherwise wouldn't have. But there's no need to rush to decide, so take your time and see how much you like using her.

I've often seen Penance regarded as hard to use, but I do not believe this to be the case. Rather, what's going on is that Penance is an operator with very pronounced strengths and weaknesses, so if used properly she'll excel, but if you try to fit a square peg into a round hole then she'll faily miserably. Her actual role is very straightforward: she's a living roadblock, capable of locking down entire lanes.

Trash Flow

The key to using Penance is simply understanding where trash mobs are going; Penance will rarely be overwhelmed by sheer numbers, so you typically just place her at the best chokepoint available. If a lane doesn't have many or any trash mobs then you simply don't use Penance and take an operator focused more on 1v1 instead, or take advantage of one of the synergies listed later to circumvent her weaknesses. Thankfully it's easy to recognize where the cannon fodder will go, since they typically are the first things to start spawning in a map. Don't be afraid to delay Penance's placement until you're sure where you should put her, as there are many other reasons to do so: at 36 DP she costs a lot to begin with, s2 has high initial SP, s3 can't precharge anyway, and having higher aggro lets her activate her recoil damage more often and get more SP for s3.

Boss Killer?

One common misuse of Penance is using her to fight bosses; while she has impressive damage and bulk, s3's total damage isn't quite enough for her to reliably 1v1 bosses, bosses tend to burn Barrier quickly, and bosses usually have multiple phases to stall out s3's duration and attack slowly so s3 will recharge slowly. While there are some exceptions like phase 2 Patriot whose DoT aura continually procs Penance's recoil damage letting her melt him easily, bosses in general play to her weaknesses. Rather, Penance's forte is in using her fast rotations to deal with elites while letting her recoil clean up trash mobs, allowing your other units to focus their attention on other matters such as the boss.

Barrier Maintenance

Another important thing to learn is how to keep Penance's Barrier up, given how key it is to her kit. You should pick this up fairly quickly if you start using here, but here are some specific pointers:

SSS is a gamemode almost tailor-made for Penance, offering lots of trash mobs that typicially funnel into 1-2 chokepoints. And with her s3 already having such high dph she doesn't need to stack Attack just to overcome Defense, giving her a lot of freedom in which buffs you stack. For example, the classic Vanguard A lets her charge even during downtime, Defender A's +1 block lets her stack up even more mobs, and Guard B provides the overall highest dps increase. Or if you want to try something silly, a full Vanguard stack will let Penance always Charge her s1 for chain Stuns and a high damage too.

While Penance would rather other operators stay in their own lanes for the most part she does still have some synergies, and most of them are strong ones at that. If you have any of the operators listed below it's well worth considering if there's some way for you to fit them into your team when using Penance (or vice-versa).

SP Batteries

Penance's s3 has a low SP cost and high power but defensive recovery can lead to difficulty charging it, making her a great candidate for use with SP batteries. While many SP batteries don't work well with her if at all, being defensive recovery does unlcok three great ones that auto recovery can't use, and there's another great one that has special synergy with her.

Blemishine's talent causes defrec skills to recover 1 SP when attacking; with Penance's 1.6s interval that's an average 0.625 SP/sec, charging s3 in 32s on its own. And that's not counting the base defensive recovery SP gain, which will charge s3 even faster in practice. This is especially useful for improving s3's performance against slow-attacking but hard-hitting elites, which normally give it trouble. The drawback is that this still requires that Penance have enemies to fight, so during breaks between waves Penance is still stuck at 0 SP/sec. Even so, Blemi has a transformative effect on Penance, and Penance may well be the operator who benefits most from Blemi. And given that Blemi's plenty good on her own merits, using her to charge Penance doesn't require much sacrifice.

Stainless s3 provides deployable turrets that can be attacked, thereby triggering Blemishine's SP battery, ensuring that Penance s3 will always have a 32s cooldown at worst. Stainless can also directly act as an SP battery with s2, but in that capacity he's not as good as Penance's other options.

Ch'en1 with her X2+ module causes offrec and defrec skills to recover 1 SP every 3 seconds, an average 0.33 SP/sec, charging s3 in 60s on its own. While Ch'en1's SP battery is only around half the strength of Blemi's, it has the advantage of working regardless of whether there are enemies available, letting Penance keep charging during breaks between waves. While this isn't quite as impactful as Blemi's it's still very noticeable, and if you wanted you could always use both, as Blemi also benefits from Ch'en1's SP battery. With X3 Ch'en1 is a much more capable operator than she once was, and Il Siracusano finally allows you to use her without having to kick Ch'en2 out of the squad.

Aak s3 attacks an operator 15 times for 500 physical damage, and if the target survives both they and Aak will be buffed. Penance's Defense means Aak only does 375 total damage, and all those attacks do count towards Defensive recovery, granting Penance 15 SP near instantly (Aak is not affected by Penance's recoil damage). The buff from s3 is +50% Attack and +50 ASPD; while the former is heavily diluted by Penance s3's +400% Attack, the latter is not and provides a good damage boost, though it only lasts for two-thirds of Penance s3's duration. Aak's rotation also lines up fairly well with Penance s3, at 55s--assuming you can get the 5 extra SP from something, Penance s3 will have a consistent 25s cooldown.

Due to her talent, Saga is incapable of landing the killing blow on an enemy (except via her s2), instead putting them into the Critically Wounded state where they'll die in a single hit, granting 2 SP to whoever finished them off. This is perfect for feeding Penance Barrier, plus Saga's s3 can fund Penance's DP cost and has range extension so Saga can hide behind Penance and continue providing assitance.

Regen is the only way to heal Penance so it gets a mention here, though more so as a warning. While it may seem like regen would be extremely helpful, the reality is if Penance is taking so much damage that she'd die without regen then she's spending a long time with no Barrier and her combat performance will suffer due to her second talent being inactive. Thus, regen is a lot less useful than you may think at first glance. It's not entirely useless as it might well be what she needs to wait out s3's cooldown for the renewed Barrier, but it's rarely worth going out of your way for.

Damage Mitigation

Rather, if you want to keep Penance alive focus on preventing/reducing damage she takes, which will let her Barrier last longer and thus indirectly buff her offense along with her defense.

Rosa is one of many operators who are less likely to steal Penance's kills, but I decided to give her some special attention due to how well her mechanics work with Penance. As a Besieger she naturally prioritizes the heaviest enemy in range, which normally means she prioritizes the enemies that are a net Barrier loss over the ones that are a net Barrier profit. Furthermore, she ignores 60% of the Defense of weight 3+ enemies and her upcoming module will ~double her dps against them; this makes her very good at taking down those elites, but even when she runs out her dps against the trash mobs will be lackluster, giving Penance the chance to kill them herself.

While I haven't tested this combo personally, much like Rosa Ebenholz is geared to fight elite enemies, and thus tends to leave mobs for Penance. The catch is that his "filter" is reliant on skill uptime, and when he does attack trash mobs he tends to ohko them, making him very map-reliant to pair with Penance.

As mentioned earlier, combining Penance with operators that inflict these status effects can result in an infinite cc lock on an enemy, but this generally requires 3+ operators total. The most notable combo is with Erato s1 and a source of SP such as Ptilopsis's talent, which will produce an afk cc lock. This is a very low investment combo as well: Erato only needs s1r7 which can be achieved at e1 1, and Ptilopsis's e1 talent is sufficient SP generation, so only Penance needs e2 and mastery.

Base Skills

At e0 Penance's base skill is Law and Order, a Office skill. Law and Order provides +50% HR contacting speed but increases morale consumed per hour by 0.5.
At e2 Penance gains a second base skill, Fellow Travelers, a Dorm skill. Fellow Travelers restores 0.15 morale per hour to all Operators in that Dorm, and an additional 0.05 morale per hour for every recruitment slot beyond the original two. (Only the strongest stacked effect of this type takes place)
Penance has strongest Office skill even from e0, but with the drawback that she can only work a single 12 hour shift. Her e2 skill is a standard morale recovery skill, but it's a freebie on an operator who'll be spending a lot of time in the Dorms anyway. As a reminder, you shouldn't upgrade the Office so this skill should only provide 0.15 morale/hour rather than 0.25.

This guide ended up being shorter than I expected, since at the end of the day using Penance isn't all that complex if you acknowledge her limitations. Even so, if you have any questions ask away as I may have left something out unintentionally. Next up I plan to do a guide for Reed2 sometime during her banner, and maybe a miniguide/PSA on post-module Rosa since she hasn't been getting nearly enough hype. As always, here's a link to the Operator Guide Repository maintained by u/LastChancellor, also available in the subreddit's sidebar.
In case you'd like to see Penance in action for yourself, here are some videos (possible spoilers ahead). These are generally showing her performance in extreme scenarios and at max level, but they should give you an idea of what her upper limit is like.

2023.06.02 02:10 FamousChex First time care buyer - What would you do?

TL;DR I have the cash to buy new but it’ll deplete my savings. I have the credit to get a decent APR on a loan but already have student debt I’ll have to start paying soon. I don’t want to buy used due to current high prices and required yearly maintenance.
Hey everyone - I’m 24 and looking to buy my first car. For the past year I’ve been driving a gifted, worn-down (250,000+ miles) car that is pretty much undriveable to the point that it’s safety risk. I’ve put ~$2600 into it already and I’m thinking getting it fixed will probably be a waste of money based on how often I seem to have problems with it.
I have to get a car, but now my main dilemma is whether or not I should buy new in cash, finance new, or buy used.
I make $60,000 a year, have $27,000 in savings and ~$50,000 in student debt. I maintain a pretty low cost of living (still live with my parents and don’t pay rent/utilities) and will do so for at least the next 6 months. My credit score is 675.
Traditional advice tells me to buy used but with reliable used car prices approaching $20k I’m contemplating buying/financing new for somewhere around $21-25k. Ideally i’d get something super reliable (I really value minimal maintenance) that will depreciate relatively favorably over the next 5-10 years (e.g., Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla).
Considering the above, what would you do? Buy used? Buy new? Finance new? Anything else you need to consider?

Anything serious/Advice?
Check engine light turned on yesterday but it turned off later on. I visited autozone today and was able to pull the codes even though the check engine light was turned off. Are these codes something I'm able to fix myself or should I take it somewhere? Is it anything serious?

2023.06.01 23:31 theopinionexpress Im thinking about trading in my truck for something else, had it less than a year, 11k miles on it.

2022 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E. I paid $47k for it out the door, was happy with the price. But now Im regretting it.
I like the truck.. but I don't love it. Mostly just dont love the color - thought id get used to it, but it kinda just makes me cringe alot of the time. Sometimes I look at it and Im like yea its ok... other times, well you get the idea. Its the Sonic Gray, that sometimes looks like a light blue and sometimes makes me want to vomit.
Other than that this is a great vehicle. I put $10k down on it, was planning to drive it for 20 years - I drove my last vehicle (a 4Runner) for 12 years, and bought it with 120k miles on it.
Even with putting that money down my payments are still almost $700/month which I don't love for a vehicle Im not in love with.
The car market is still crazy, even 2005-ish w/ 100k + mile vehicles with 4wd (a requirement for me) are going for $6-8k or more.
So Im kinda in a pickle, Im basically in negative equity on this thing almost - trying not to do the math on the sunk cost. Wondering what someone in the industry might do to not completely screw themselves, would you drive it another year? Or trade it in, go with a lease? Trade it in buy something used? How common is it to trade in something like this that is so new? I know its almost two years old but its only been driven less than a year.
Im located in Southern New England.

2023.06.01 22:50 djdcoy858 Misfire or Knock sensor what to address first/next?

2005 Toyota Camry v6 (1mzfe) 191,XXX that’s running rough. Vibrates on start up gets little better at idle. Check engine lights: P0305 (Cylinder 5 Misfire), P0325 (Knock Sensor 1), P0330 (Knock Sensor 2), P0442 (Evap leak), P0456 (Evap leak).
I swapped the coil pack on cylinder Five with one of the even cylinders, and installed a new spark plug to no success. Same codes. Smells like fuel. Old spark plug was dark brown/black perhaps too rich?
What would be my next logical step in troubleshooting this? My thoughts are going towards fuel injectors? If so should I be considering replacing or some other remedy? Should I address the knock sensors before concerning the misfire? I was thinking that fixing the misfire might fix the knock sensor but have read that the knock sensor can cause the misfire? Thought the spark plug would be the lowest hanging fruit to tackle first.

2023.06.01 22:48 Noetipanda Best Toyota Dealer?

Hello everyone!
Got sold a lemon of a used car through FB marketplace a few months ago after having no knowledge about cars, so after taking that learning experience in stride and doing a ton of research I’ve decided to work towards getting a new car while selling my current one. I can afford the monthly payments on a new car, I just wanted to be a bit thrifty to help pay student loans faster, but after dumping almost $1000 into this car I’m just wanting something reliable that I can just do basic maintenance on that gets to and from work for a long time.
Days of research later has landed me on a Toyota Corolla for this. However, I live in Wichita and have heard nothing but vitriol towards Eddy’s Toyota (and everything owned by the Stevens, of course). I’m fine with a bit of travel, so where would you recommend I get a new Toyota Corolla?
Any help is greatly appreciated. TIA

2023.06.01 21:00 The_Fallen_1 [THJVerse] Arcane Starfarers - ep 38 - Closing shop

First / Previous / Next
“So, how’s everyone at home been?” Milla asked Celenamartra as she began to stretch her legs out, preparing to stand up.
“I’d be lying if I said they weren’t worried after they heard what happened to the Ridgerider, and then that you were being sent out of UPC space,” the Goddess admitted.
“I thought so. They’re ok though, right?”
“Yes, though your parents are eager to see you as soon as possible.”
“Hopefully I’ll be home before too long. We just need to get the Langan settled in, and then they should at least put the Ridgerider’s crew on leave.”
“Don’t spread this around as it’s not official yet, but the whole crew of the ship will be going on leave so those that wish to partake in first contact celebrations can do so.”
“That’s good then,” Milla replied, cautiously standing up, using the bed frame to balance herself for a moment, before turning to Hannah’rah and Daniel. “Hey, I imagine you’re going to celebrate with your friends, mind if I tag along?”
“Sure, but one of your little brothers will be there as well,” Hannah’rah warned her.
“Xailin isn’t so bad that he requires a warning,” Milla chuckled.
“It’s good to see you’re already mostly recovered, Milla,” Celenamartra told her, turning her attention to Daniel. “May I speak to you in private for a moment, please?”
“Uh, sure…” Daniel replied, following the Goddess to the other side of the room, finding that the sound around them became muffled as Milla and Hannah’rah conversed on the other side of the room.
“I’m sure you have many questions about the past few weeks, and I feel like answering a few,” the Goddess explained. “Not everything, there are some things I don’t wish to talk about, and others that I am not allowed to at the request of others, but feel free to ask away.”
“Uhh…” he mumbled.
“It’s alright, take a moment to think.”
Daniel’s mind began to frantically process what was going on, realising he had a fully private audience with a Deity; a being far beyond his comprehension, who had near infinite knowledge and wisdom, and she was willing to take questions from him. His mind ground to a halt as it tried to make sense of what was happening in the moment, as his mind still hadn’t fully processed the fact that she requested him by name to follow her into the room, let alone the current situation. All he could think about was Deities, and a single question he had been wondering for a while stuck in his mind.
“Ordos. Who is he, and can I trust him?” Daniel asked.
“I don’t wish to reveal his identity; that is for him to do. I will say that he can be trusted as much as any Deity. He follows the Divine Contract, just like the rest of us. You shouldn’t worry about being aligned with him any more than any other Deity.”
“Ok, but if Ordos isn’t known to anyone else, then other Deities could exist…. How many Deities are there really?”
“At least seven,” the Goddess replied, the corners of her mouth forming a faint smirk.
“I see…” he mumbled, realising she wasn’t going to give him clear answers given the chance. “... Did we leave any living Langan behind?”
“No, you rescued all the survivors,” she confirmed.
“That’s good to hear,” Daniel replied, feeling a weight on his mind lifting that he wasn’t aware of. “The attack on the Ridgerider, what really happened?”
“You have the report with all the details available to you.”
“Well, why did Haemish defect then? It’s not like he was raised in that environment.”
“Not everyone likes the UPC or us Deities being around, and they sometimes act irrationally, thinking that fighting is the only way, when leaving the UPC an is an option, and us Deities will respect anyone’s wishes for us to not intervene in their lives. Sometimes it’s as simple as they were raised under an older Human religion that doesn’t allow for the existence of us Deities, and they feel their way of life is threatened by us.”
“If they were to leave, where would they go when all the planets and stations are part of the UPC?”
“It’s not hard to get the necessary equipment to terraform a good candidate over the course of a few years at this point, especially as part of a larger group, and the UPC has said that they will recognise any group that does this as independent. But that’s not what happened here. He came into contact with a group of people that had no qualms with doing unspeakable acts because they can, and he joined them because he also felt that it was fine to commit such atrocities to get his way, even if the safer paths were easier and more likely to be successful. That’s just the way some people are.”
“Thank you for being honest with me.”
“Honest? Well, I didn’t lie, but I didn’t answer half your questions either,” she chuckled.
“Well, thank you for answering those questions.”
“No problem. I’m just surprised you didn’t ask about the other thing,” she replied, tapping the hidden compartment in his arm with the tip of her tail before walking back towards Milla and Hannah’rah.
He furrowed his brow as he tried to work out what she was hinting at, almost kicking himself when he overcame his mental block and remembered exactly what was hidden there, and that he had potentially just missed his only chance to gain some much needed information. He almost called back out, but he didn’t dare bring it up in front of anyone else, even if he felt like he could trust Hannah’rah and Milla more than most people, nor would he want them getting involved if he did. He knew it was his mess to deal with, and no-one else’s.
"How are you feeling now, Milla?" the Goddess asked.
"Better, thank you, though I won't be jumping the ship anywhere for a while," she admitted.
"That's not a problem. It shouldn't be necessary for the time being. Let's carry on with the task at hand, shall we?"
Daniel sat at his console, watching the large station dominate more and more of his view as the ship drew closer to the large torus that housed the docking beams to the Langan's temporary home, with the large central spire blocking out the light of the system's star from their angle. He fought the urge to look back at Celenamartra and Oprin, who were engaged in deep conversation about philosophy and religion, the former more eager, and the latter still put off by the dominating presence the Goddess exuded. He did glance back at Milla however, and while she was obviously uncomfortable, she sat in her seat, ready for her duty, but desperately hoping a portal wasn’t needed anytime soon.
The Trailmaker slipped through the small fleet acting as a defensive force, ready in case one of the few civilian ships that had arrived in the system entered the broadcast restricted perimeter. It did afford the crew a sense of ease however, as while they still had jobs to do, it meant that they didn’t always have to be almost combat ready for the first time in about a month. The ship continued onwards, sliding into an open docking arm’s grasp, sending reverberations down the length of the ship as it clamped down onto various sections, and attached docking ports to the ship's airlocks.
“And there we have it,” Captain Harris announced as a silent but collective sigh of relief washed over the bridge. “We’re officially docked with the recently named ‘Olinath Orbital’, and our mission is now officially complete. Operations will take over from here, so wrap up your business, and those of you not involved with the next tasks, go get some well earned rest. Inform your teams that access to the station is available upon request, and we now have an active uplink to the internet if they wish to use it.”
Daniel began to close most of the running programs on his console to make sure none of them got in the way if anyone came along to perform maintenance, and then logged himself out. As he stood up, Hannah’rah did the same, and they began to leave the bridge, checking if Milla was leaving as well, but she remained where she was, seemingly waiting for the Goddess to conclude her conversation, and waved to Daniel and Hannah’rah to go on their way. They both headed to their team rooms, splitting up as they reached the server room, which Daniel headed inside, pleased to find all four members of his team, though Corporal Kreklan was half asleep and Corporal Seling’ten looked like he had only just woken up.
“Hey all,” Daniel began. “Just a quick one. We’ve finally docked. Station access is under light restriction, so make a proper request if you want to go aboard. It should get approved if nothing is going on at the time. Bridge duties are over until the time comes for us to undock, and internet access has been established. You’re all free to use it, but we just need to keep an eye on the monitoring tools. Operations should be the first port of call for any issues, but anything severe will likely fall to us. That’s all I have to say. Any questions?”
“Thank you, Sir,” Sergeant Zent replied. “... I don’t think we do.”
“Good. Take things easy now. Also, Corporal Kreklan, Corporal Seling’ten, is there any reason why you’re both up?” Daniel asked.
“We both got pulled out of bed. ‘No one slacks off while we have a Deity on board,’” Corporal Kreklan replied, his voice slightly slurred. “So we’re waiting in here until the Goddess departs.”
“Who said that?” Daniel asked.
“Just some Sergeant that sleeps in the same room as us,” the Centaur explained. “Don’t know their name.”
“Ok, I’m ordering you both to rest until your next shift starts. If he gives you shit, send him to me. I’ll be right here for a few more hours. Understood?”
“Yes, Sir,” they both replied, faintly smiling as they left.
Daniel shook his head and sat down at his desk, bringing up a half-complete report he'd been working on. He continued on from the section on system performance, finishing it with a recommendation for someone to look into installing a background radiation filtering tool, as one really should have been added for sake of convenience, even if there was a risk of a faint signal being lost. He also made sure he mentioned the signal spike before departure, recommending that the EM sensors be checked out, and the signal analysed, just in case. He then began to write up about the performance of his subordinates, making sure to credit the actions he had noticed or been made aware of, though pointed out that due to his time on the Langan's home world, he had not been around constantly to properly monitor the team for a short period of time, mentioning how Sergeant Zent had stepped up instead.
Daniel's attention was pulled away by someone knocking on the server room's door, and he began to wonder if the two Corporals had returned, or if he was about to set someone straight.
"Enter," Daniel called out.
A large Human man entered the room, who quickly stood to attention when he saw Daniel.
"... Well, why are you here, Sergeant?" Daniel asked, standing to his feet noticing the rank on the man's slides.
"Sir, I came to you to report that two of your Corporals are slacking off, Sir," the Sergeant replied, wearing a very faint smug grin.
"What do you mean, 'slacking off?'"
"They're sleeping in the middle of the day, Sir."
"Do you sleep in the same room as them, Sergeant?" Daniel asked calmly.
"Yes, Sir."
"Then why the fuck haven't you noticed they're late shifts!?" Daniel shouted. "They've been doing this for a month! Did you not see them sleeping when you finished for the day, or got up in the morning!?"
"Yes, Sir," the Sergeant responded, losing his faint smirk immediately.
"So why do you think now is any different to then!?"
"Because we have a Deity on board, Sir."
"There are no rules or regulations stating everyone must be awake and working 24/7, and I can personally assure you that Celenamartra doesn't care if they're awake or not. In fact, I think she'd prefer it if they were asleep, as that way our ship's security is at less risk of being compromised by half-asleep crew!"
"But, Sir, isn't it disrespectful?" the Sergeant tried to argue. "Everyone should be at full alert."
"What's your job, Sergeant?"
"I asked, what's your job?"
"I work in engineering, Sir."
"If you're meant to be at full alert, why are you in the crew quarters and not engineering?"
The Sergeant opened his mouth, but no words came out, so he closed it again.
"I don't know, Sir."
"You don't know? Then why are you harassing people who do know why they're where they are!? … Apologise to the people you disturbed if they're awake, but leave them alone if they aren't, and apologise later instead. I will be asking them to see if you have done so."
"Yes, Sir," the Sergeant replied, turning to leave.
"You are not dismissed, get back here."
The Sergeant turned back around to face Daniel, regret clear on his face.
"If you have done the same to the members of other teams, I suggest you apologise to them and their superior officers very quickly before they blow up on you as well."
"Yes, Sir. I will do that, Sir," the Sergeant promised.
"Good. Dismissed," Daniel told the Sergeant, watching him leave.
"... Remind me not to give bad orders to anyone under you, Sir," Sergeant Zent commented.
"Eh, you'll probably be fine. You aren't terminally stupid after all," Daniel chuckled, sitting back down.
"Why did you go so hard on him?" Sergeant Zent asked. "Yeah, he was wrong, but he was trying to do the right thing."
"Don't reward dumb, even when it comes from a good place, else people will never learn to think and do things right. Also, us techs get pushed around a lot. I'm just making it clear we shouldn't be. I advise you to do that as well if you're in a position like that. The last thing you want is people walking all over you and the people that depend on you."

2023.06.01 20:48 Whackywonka Does replacing the fuel tank vent hose (2014 Toyota Corolla) really require 3 hours of labor and dropping the fuel tank? (Repost from u/EternalWitness)

Had and fixed a very similar problem on my 2012 S and fixed in for about $5
Hello all. My 2014 Toyota Corolla LE (27,000 miles) check engine light came on, I took it into my local Toyota dealership, and they diagnosed it with a leaking fuel tank vent hose (part #77404-02081) due to rodents chewing into the hose (I have no choice but to keep my car outside).
The part is $30 but the repair they quoted me was $390 because they said that you must drop the fuel tank to replace the hose and this takes them 3 hours.
My question is, is this a reasonable quote? It seems incredible that it would take professionals 3 hours of labor to replace a hose. Is this something I'm capable of doing on my own (I assume not)? Should I shop around for better prices? Is this a repair that needs to be taken care of immediately, or can it wait?
Thanks!) due to rodents chewing into the hose (I have no choice but to keep my car outside).
I removed the back seat to gain access to the fuel pump and figure out where the lines needed to run. I had to crawl/ back shimmy under the car (no jack or lifting needed) and could reach to where the connection terminated. I decided to try my luck with a razor and was able to cut both ends of the hose free from their respective connections and run some 5/16 fuel line as a substitute. It was not an easy process, but I'm a smaller guy. All in all, it took 2 hours of research, 45 minutes of wiggling and swearing, and $5 in hose from AutoZone.

Hopefully u/eternalwitness has already fixed their car but the post helped me find my solution.

Reverse Osmosis Filters Are Not The Best Choice When It Comes To Home Water Filtration
Reverse osmosis filters have long been touted as the ultimate solution for home water filtration. However, recent studies have shed light on the potential health risks associated with drinking demineralized water. As a result, these filters are now losing their popularity and are no longer considered the best choice for water filtration. In this essay, we will explore the drawbacks of reverse osmosis filters and highlight the advantages of multi-stage filtration systems.
Reverse osmosis filters operate by subjecting water to high pressure against a semi-permeable membrane with ultra-fine pores. This process allows only a fraction of the water to pass through, while retaining inorganic compounds and trace minerals. Although this may sound effective, it fails to address the presence of many smaller chemicals that are not filtered out by the system. To tackle these toxins, a carbon filter is typically used in conjunction with the reverse osmosis filter.
Reserve osmosis systems
One of the major drawbacks of reverse osmosis filters is the wastefulness of the process. Approximately 2-3 gallons of water are wasted for every gallon produced by the system. This not only leads to a significant amount of water wastage but also increases the overall water consumption in households. In contrast, multi-stage filtration systems are designed to be more efficient and reduce water waste.
Furthermore, the cost of using reverse osmosis filters is considerably higher compared to multi-stage units. With a usage cost ranging from 18-24 cents per gallon, reverse osmosis systems are more expensive to operate than their multi-stage counterparts, which typically cost around 10 cents per gallon. This cost disparity can quickly add up, making reverse osmosis filters an impractical and costly choice for many households.
Another critical drawback of reverse osmosis filters is their removal of essential trace elements from the water. Calcium, potassium, and magnesium are vital minerals that contribute to human health. Unfortunately, reverse osmosis filters indiscriminately strip away these trace minerals, potentially leading to mineral deficiencies and adverse health effects. In contrast, multi-stage filtration systems retain these important minerals, providing healthier drinking water without compromising on filtration effectiveness.
Maintenance is another factor to consider when evaluating water filtration systems. Reverse osmosis filters require more maintenance compared to other options. The semi-permeable membrane and carbon filters need regular replacement, adding to the overall cost and effort involved in maintaining these systems. In contrast, multi-stage filters often have longer lifespan and require less frequent maintenance, making them a more convenient choice for homeowners.
If you are in the market for a point-of-use or whole house water filtration system, it is recommended to explore alternatives to reverse osmosis filters. The Water Liberty Guide by the blog ENERGY LIBERATION ARMY offers multi-stage filtration units that not only remove a wide range of contaminants but also retain essential trace minerals. Companies like Water Liberty have also gained a reputation for their efficient and cost-effective water filters, consistently ranking high in customer satisfaction surveys.
In conclusion, reverse osmosis filters are no longer the best choice when it comes to home water filtration. They waste water, have higher operating costs, remove essential trace minerals, and require more maintenance compared to multi-stage filtration systems. It is advisable to consider alternatives that provide effective filtration while preserving important minerals, such as the Water Liberty Guide or Water Liberty filters. By choosing a superior filtration system, you can ensure the provision of clean and healthy water for you and your family.

2023.06.01 18:39 naollegesse Dealership crashed my Gfs car during delivery

So my Gf bought a Toyota Corolla 2021 LE(44k miles on it )last Saturday from a Toyota dealership in Massachusetts. The car was about to be delivered today by the sales rep who took care of the process. He just texted her that someone crashed in to him from the back during a red light and he hit the car in front.
I'm a bit suspicious of the crash because the dealership has been stalling about delivering the car for quite sometime. We already test drove the car so I'm sure it's not being delivered from another place. I say this because the car was supposed to be delivered on Tuesday(dealership was closed on Monday because of memorial day) and it took them 2 extra days. Their reasons where 1. Registration process is taking longer than usual, 2. We were going to deliver the car with a full gas tank but the gas station we work with is under maintenance.
I just dont feel good about this purchase and wanted to know what her options are. Would she be liable for the crash upon delivery? What should I look out for when we talk to the dealership? My gf has decided to return the car which I totally support and wanted to know what you guys think.
