2023.06.06 14:27 MilesBeyond250 Is AI combat spellcasting broken?

The combat AI seems like it has a massive crush on low-tier spells. Playing a monster mega-game with Magic victory disabled, it's on turn 180 and the AI's still just constantly dropping things like Baneful Curse and Soup Overflow every turn. Like my dude your army is 50% Reapers I know you have better spells than that.
And stopping to think about it, I don't know if I've ever seen the AI cast a single combat spell from a tome higher than T2.
Is this a common issue or do I just have the weirdest luck?

2023.06.06 14:27 WorldAwayTweedy I’m in my first semester at a prestigious university, and I've noticed that students keep dropping out of their classes.

It first came to my attention in my 100-level Political Science class.
Week one, the class was absolutely packed. There was energy. Debate. Discussion.
Five weeks in, and now it looks like nearly half the class is gone.
Mind you, Professor Weldon was not only an exceptional lecturer who explained concepts with passion and great insight - he was also a very easy grader. It made no sense to me that people were transferring out of his class. A couple of stragglers dropping off once they realize that Poli Sci isn’t for them? Sure. But this was ridiculous.
It happened in my other 100-level classes too: four weeks in, and a little over 40% of the class transferred out of English 101. Psychology? A lecture hall of roughly 200 people had been reduced to 120 or so.
I brought it up to my friends on campus who were also in their first year.
“People dropping classes in their first few weeks is totally normal,” replied Dinesh. “If I saw you sitting there in one of my classes with that dumb expression on your face, I’d drop it immediately too.”
Ha-ha. Very funny.
I turned to Mallory. She just shrugged and said “I don’t know man,” and went back to reading her book.
I’d known both of them for close to five years now. While none of us were in the same program (Dinesh was a robotics geek, Mallory was obsessed with history), we’d all been very close since high school. We were outcasts who clung to each other over our shared love of D&D, video game music, and badminton. After weeks of nervousness hoping all of us would get admission to this university, we were thrilled to find out that we’d all made it - our little trio would get to continue.
“Guess I’m just overthinking things, then. Don’t know why this isn’t sitting well with me,” I responded to both of them.
As we continued hanging out in the mezzanine, I couldn’t shake the fact that the campus, as a whole, looked much emptier than usual for a Monday.
–-
As usual, I showed up early for the Poli Sci lecture. Yes, I am a tryhard, and yes, it’s important to me that I’m as close to a model student as possible in this new chapter of my life.
I watched as students shuffled into class. I also paid attention to Professor Weldon’s pre-class demeanor. He was his usual chipper self.
I took the opportunity to go up to him and ask a quick question.
“Hey, Professor Weldon…”
“You can call me Michael!”
“Right, hey… Michael, so obviously, we’re only like five weeks into the class and it’s my first year so I’m new to this whole thing… just wanted to confirm it’s normal for students to transfer out of their classes in the first few weeks? I’ve noticed a really big drop off in all of my classes including this on–”
“Totally normal! I mean, students are still figuring out what their interests are and what their overall class workload needs to be, so this is all very standard stuff. Great question though!”
Well, alrighty then. I think I just needed to hear it from a professor. I started questioning why the whole drop-off thing was even bothering me in the first place. I turned to go back to my seat.
“Don’t ever ask that again, alright?”
What?
I turned around. Did the prof just whisper what I thought he did?
He doubled down with a hushed response.
“I’m not gonna say anything about it, but a word of advice. For your own good, just listen to the material and study it. You really don’t wanna be asking people around here questions like that. Are we clear?”
All I could do was muster up a nod and walk back to my desk.
And with that, the lecture kicked off. As Professor Weldon discussed the various types of political systems around the world, I tried my best to forget the weird exchange I just had with him. To his credit, he defaulted to his regular sunny disposition throughout the presentation. I even answered a few questions he posed to the group, and he called on me as if nothing had even happened.
There were moments though, as I looked around the class, where I felt like I wasn’t alone in my… hypervigilance. Most of the students were tuned in or dozing off as usual, but I spotted a couple of faces who seemed… nervous? Like they were anxiously contemplating something?
In the midst of my surveying of the room, my eyes were drawn to a student sitting near me: a student who I remembered being quite outspoken in earlier weeks of the class, but who now seemed very reserved. From my vantage point, I could make out some of the notes he was scribbling in his notebook:
Follow up Q’s for the Dean:
- Has my drop out request been approved?
- Am I allowed to tell my family?
- Why are only some students notified about this?
- Does it emerge from Williams Hall?
As you can probably tell, these questions had absolutely nothing to do with the class.
I wrote them down in my journal. It was time to do some research.
–-
After class, I invited Dinesh and Mallory to my (unfortunately) tiny dorm room for an evening conversation about everything that happened today.
While I waited for them to arrive, I spent my time doing online research to see if I could uncover anything that would shed light on the happenings - looking up things like “dropoff rates increasing” or “odd occurrences” at my university. I unfortunately wasn’t able to uncover much of anything - everything online was very boilerplate and sanitized.
The note - “Does it emerge from Williams Hall?” - from class earlier was the only thing that led to something of moderate substance. After searching through our school intranet, I realized that Williams Hall had been more or less designated as “off limits” for a number of years now. Outside of being the location of some of our final exams and student body meetings, the building had been cordoned off so that construction and renovations could be completed there.
Strangely enough, my research also showed me that prior to Williams Hall being sequestered, it used to be the hub for our Faculty of Arts, and was the former homebase for a lot of our major university clubs (theater, debate). These classes and clubs had all been moved into other buildings at the university over the last fifteen years or so.
As I continued digging, Dinesh arrived.
“Hey cuckoo bird,” he said as he came in. Before I could cut him off and tell him that this was kind of serious, he continued–
“So, uh, something happened actually and… maybe you’re not totally completely nuts.”
“Okay…,” I responded.
“So, we’re in week five right? Up until last week, my robotics class was basically at capacity - one or two stragglers dropped off in the first few weeks, but we were more or less a full group. Today, I shit you not, half the class was missing. I asked the prof, and he said they dropped out, and then he just changed the subject. I looked into it, and if you drop a class after week three, you’re required to pay a full refund. Why the fuck would anyone drop a class this late?”
I nodded. “It’s not just dropping classes and switching into other ones. I think it’s–”
“People dropping out of the university altogether,” Dinesh said, cutting me off. “Feels like there’s… less people in general now, at the campus.”
A rush of anxiety hit me as I realized that Mallory hadn’t responded to any of my texts today. I shook it off.
“So… something really weird happened in Poli Sci class today.”
–-
I filled Dinesh in on everything. He was a bit incredulous, and didn’t totally believe the exchange I had with the instructor (his interpretation being that Professor Weldon was simply offended I was pointing out that people were dropping his class).
Nonetheless, he helped me with my research.
We scoured the web, searching up old Reddit posts, blog posts, discussion board conversations - anything at all that mentioned Williams Hall or bizarre events at the university. Aside from jaded former students calling out the difficult grading scale here, everything we came across was useless. But, we did notice a suspicious trend…
The year 2008 was very interesting for the school… in that there was no record of anything happening here that year. No campus events that took place here (or events that were hosted at the university in general, for that matter), no sports records, no graduation records, the list goes on. Nothing. Were there any professors that taught here in the year 2008? Not that we could find. A 2008 yearbook? Nope.
Dinesh and I went deeper and deeper down our rabbit hole, as I tried to push aside concerned thoughts of still not hearing back from Mallory. Dinesh mentioned that we should hone in on the year 2008 and try to use the Wayback Machine, in case that could help us find anything that might’ve been archived or deleted since. It took a little while, but we were able to dig up an old message board conversation, which I’ll share below.

Thread: So are we going to talk about that?

Title says all… June 8 at Williams Hall. won’t say more at risk of exposing myself, but I know there are lots of others who go to this school or went here, and were there when it happened. Why the actual fuck is no one talking about this?!?

I’m sure people tried to call the cops.
I was the only guy that crawled to the door when it was all over. Apparently the rest of you just stood up and walked out. Maybe different reactions to shock for all of us?

Apparently they found his body later.
I never believed him tho lol my friend says shit a lot of dumb shit when he’s blazing >_>

Thread locked due to inappropriate content.

We also found two other threads on a different message board, both created by the same person in 2008. The posts didn’t mention Williams Hall or the university explicitly, but they did mention the June 8th date. The post was of a mother claiming that her daughter randomly disappeared after going to the campus one day. The mother detailed how she didn’t buy the official story she was told by the police that her daughter simply “ran away”. She said that she was speaking with other parents in the area who were dealing with the same situation, and that she would provide updates as they came. Both threads were locked soon after posting.
As I jotted down the recurring date that was coming up in these threads (June 8th, 2008), I heard the door open.
Dinesh and I exhaled as Mallory entered. But that relief washed away quickly - something was off. Mallory was not herself. She’s always been quiet and reserved, preferring to be 'near people but not participating', but this time felt different.
We slowly started filling her in, trying to find a way to make our disconnected musings make sense. She listened as we talked about the student drop-offs in our classes and the overall campus feeling more empty, the peculiar goings-on in my Poli Sci class earlier in the day, and the archived message board posts we discovered during our online research. As we detailed our findings, we realized that we both sounded a little crazy… all of these things were, ultimately, random occurrences that we were stitching together like some sort of conspiracy theory.
But then Mallory spoke up.
“I had a meeting with the Dean earlier today. I’m going to drop out.”
–-
The hours after Mallory said that were stressful. Obviously, Dinesh and I were shocked, confused, and most of all, deathly curious on what spurred this on for her.
Frustratingly, she wasn’t giving us too many details.
She asked us if the Dean had organized a meeting with either of us earlier in the week. When we both said no, she looked really, really miserable. Her reaction only added to our confusion.
We asked her if her reasons for dropping out were similar to what we were researching, and she begrudgingly said yes. When we asked her to elaborate, she said she was sworn to secrecy and couldn’t speak further.
“Why can’t you tell us what’s going on?!” I asked her, for probably the 30th time in our back-and-forth.
“I just can’t. If I say anything more…”
Her eyes trailed off, as if suggesting there was some terrible fate that would befall her if she elaborated further. Most of her answers to our following questions were just a simple “I’m sorry.”
Our one-sided conversation with Mallory continued for quite some time. Eventually, Dinesh asked the question that was lingering at the back of my mind. A question that seemed utterly ridiculous but also very necessary.
“Do you… do you think we should drop out too, maybe?”
It took a while for Mallory to respond. She chose her words carefully.
“I guess it’s random,” she started. “It’s random… which students they explain this whole thing to, and which ones they don’t. If they call upon you, you’re given the option to drop out. But if the Dean didn’t meet with you…”
“What the fuck does that even mean?!” Dinesh responded.
“It… means that I don’t think they’ll approve it. Even if you want to leave.”
Dinesh turned to me with a look of bafflement.
“I mean… we could just, like, leave though, right? Like… physically get up and leave? Like, how could they actually stop us from doing that?”
I saw Mallory’s eyes widen as Dinesh spoke those words to me. I knew that she wanted to say so much more to us, but she just couldn’t. The look in her eyes made it clear to me - us running now would be a mistake.
We struggled to get anything more out of Mallory. Eventually, I jumped in with a softball question that I prayed she’d answer. Referring to the research we were doing, I asked her plainly –
“If Dinesh and I keep digging, do you think we’ll be able to figure out what’s going on?”
She paused for a moment, and then nodded.
And that was all I needed.
“I think it’s time we go on an adventure, Dinesh,” I said.
“Goddamnit,” was his reply.
As we all left my dorm room, the three of us reluctantly gave each other a group hug. We’re not the mushy, touchy-feely types, so this was the first time we’d ever done anything this sentimental. It was awkward and not great, but everything felt too serious for us to not do it. As we let go of each other, I saw the first tears I’d ever seen Mallory cry.
“I”m really sorry I can’t say more. I’m really, really sorry,” she said. All good, Mal.
And with that, Dinesh and I headed out on a nighttime trek towards a certain building.
–-
We made our way through the nearly pitch-black, empty courtyard, towards a bunch of construction signs and scaffolding that suggested we were getting closer and closer to Williams Hall. Dinesh, continuing his research on his phone, was chiming in with some “fun facts” –
“This building’s been under construction for like over a decade… how?”
“It’s probably just an excuse,” I responded.
Past a collection of tools and barriers, we arrived at a side door to the building. To my surprise, it wasn’t locked.
We entered, using our cell-phone flashlights to maneuver through the dark. Past the scent of old wood and peeling wallpaper, in a hallway that I can best describe as “rickety”, a word that I’m aware doesn’t make sense in this context but is the only one that comes to mind -
We arrived at the foyer. The ceiling stretched high above us. We maneuvered around a wet spot on the floor reflecting back at us (probably a leaky pipe somewhere) as our phone lights illuminated the dusty engraving above us that read Faculty of Arts.
“Which way do you think we should head?” I asked as our lights spun around the room, taking in every inch of the once-bustling building. The beam from my cell phone cut through the air, creating a glow that illuminated relics around us: various seating areas that seemed carelessly assembled, abstract art installations that were now covered in grime, and a collection of aged plaques adorning the walls, preserving the wide smiles of professors and administrators of years past.
A sign off in the distance that read Final Exam Room caught my attention. I motioned to Dinesh and he followed.
With our footsteps across the marble floor of yet another hallway that had seen better days, we approached our destination. Along the way, we encountered empty classrooms on both sides of the large corridor. Our brief peeks into all of the rooms revealed perfect preservation and consistency: desks and chairs neatly arranged, and the boards in each room having only one simple message written on them:
REMINDER: FINAL EXAM - JUNE 8TH
“Does every class do their final exam on the same day?” I asked Dinesh.
He didn’t reply. He was drawn to the large doors at the end of the hallway. I flashed my light at the engraving above them -
FINAL EXAM ROOM / STUDENT BODY MEETING ROOM
Huh. Weird combination if ever I’d seen one.
“I feel like coming here was beyond stupid,” Dinesh said.
“Yep. But we’re here now.”
Dinesh shined his phone light on a small sign posted up beside the doors.
Final Exam Room
Most Recent: June 8, 2008
Next Exam: June 8, 2023
Don’t forget to study!!!
We froze up. The obvious question for both of us was why a seemingly abandoned and under-construction building would have a note about an upcoming final exam scheduled for just a few days from now… an exam taking place only half-way through the semester, mind you.
“Do we go in?” Dinesh asked.
I wasn’t voted “most inquisitive” in high school superlatives… because it wasn’t a category. If it was, I would’ve secured it, no competition. This whole thing had been nagging at me from the first couple of weeks. I needed to know what was going on.
“Yes. We go in.”
We opened the doors, revealing a large room with hundreds of desks, all perfectly spaced out from each other. It was an exam, after all.
The hall stretched far and long. As we inched our way in, a pungent smell flooded my senses - like nothing I’d ever experienced before.
I pointed my phone light from desk to desk as I walked on by, realizing why the abandoned room felt so “lively” to me from the second we opened the door.
Nearly all of the desks were occupied by the headless and decayed bodies of students seated upright. Hands on the table. Coats on the chair behind them. Bags under desks.
Before the shock of the sight could overtake us and force us to get the fuck out of there, the sound of footsteps from the other end of the large exam hall caused us to redirect our phone lights to the source of the sound.
A figure emerged from the shadows, dressed in attire that was unmistakably formal. His hands were clasped behind him, a posture of composure and control. A face that I hadn’t seen since my first week orientation. The Dean?
He addressed us.
“Gentlemen - the exam isn’t for a few days now. I suggest you get back to studying.”

The Fun and Joy of Starting Slow in Exercise

The Fun and Joy of Starting Slow in Exercise
Isn't it amazing how the smallest actions can bring about the most significant transformations? This is especially true when it comes to our physical health and well-being.
Embarking on a journey to a more active, healthier life doesn't mean having to run a marathon on your first day. In fact, the beauty of exercise lies in starting slow and gradually building up. This way, your body can adapt and grow stronger over time without being overwhelmed.
One way to kickstart this journey is as simple as going for a 15-minute walk around your block while listening to your favorite music. Create a playlist that energizes you and lifts your spirits; let the rhythm guide your steps. As you move to the beat, you will not only be strengthening your body but also filling your mind with positive energy.
Now, imagine doing this every day. Over time, these little walks could become jogs, then runs. Before you know it, you will be seeing and feeling the incredible effects of regular exercise on your body and mind - better sleep, higher energy levels, improved mood, and so much more.
However, it's important to remember that every body is unique. Before starting any new exercise routine, please consult with your healthcare and therapeutic providers. They can guide you to make sure your new routine is both safe and effective for your specific needs.
  1. What kind of physical activities do I enjoy? (Answer: Identifying what you love will motivate you to be consistent in your exercise routine.)
  2. How can I make exercise a fun part of my daily routine? (Answer: Create a playlist, invite a friend to join you, or reward yourself after each session.)
  3. What small, achievable fitness goal can I set for myself this week? (Answer: Consistency beats intensity. Start with a goal as simple as a daily 15-minute walk.)
  4. How will I feel when I achieve my fitness goal? (Answer: Accomplishing a goal brings a sense of satisfaction, confidence, and motivation for further challenges.)
  5. What positive changes can I expect from regular exercise? (Answer: Regular exercise can improve your mood, sleep, energy levels, and overall health.)
Starting an exercise routine doesn't require you to jump into intense workouts right away. It's about taking small, enjoyable steps that can lead to big changes. Start slow, make it fun, and gradually increase your effort. You'll soon start experiencing the many benefits of regular physical activity. But remember, always consult your healthcare and therapeutic providers before starting a new exercise routine.

2023.06.06 14:08 Steelsoldier77 Week 12 Recap + Power Rankings

We had some real exciting games this week and some real chaos going on in both conferences. What looked like a one man race for first place in the east is suddenly not so sure, and in the west 3 games separate first from last place. As we near the end of the season and teams start to get eliminated from contention, I would like to do a weekly post about the playoff picture, like I did last year.

Tucson Sugar Skulls (5-4) @ Vegas Knight Hawks (4-6) 42-41: What started out as kind of a dull game, in which Vegas led by two scores for a long time ended in a 14 point fourth quarter comeback thriller for Tucson. Down by 14, Ramone Atkins ran for a 15 yard touchdown with 7 minutes left in the game. The Sugar Skulls got a lucky bounce on the following kickoff and tackled the returner for a rouge point. This would prove to be the difference, as standout DB Rashie Hodge intercepted Daquan Neal in the end zone as Vegas was trying to seal the win. The Sugar Skulls drove down the field and scored another touchdown, with the extra point putting them ahead for good. Vegas had time to attempt one last field goal, but it went wide and Tucson emerged victorious. Of note, Daquan Neal left the game before Vegas' final drive, but I was unable to catch why. Will be interesting to see if this is him reinjuring his ankle.
Player of the game: Rashie Hodge, DB, Tucson

Frisco Fighters (8-2) @ Massachusetts Pirates (7-3) 58-72: It's almost impossible to believe the Pirates who got absolutely thrashed by the worst team in the world a few weeks ago are the same Pirates who have just notched 3 wins in a row, including 2 double digit wins over the other top teams in the East; QC and now Frisco. Anthony Russo is on fire, and I firmly believe he should be the starter going forward even if Bennifield is healthy. The rookie QB threw for 201 yards and 8 touchdowns, beating his 7 touchdowns from a couple weeks ago. Frisco had an amazing night running the ball, but part of that is due to the Pirates' defensive backs locking down the Fighters' receivers the entire game. TJ Edwards had his worst game of the season as he had pretty much no one to throw to. On the plus side, RB Martez Carter had a monster game, rushing for 134 yards and a touchdowns. Also of note for Mass. was kicker Josh Gable who made I believe 5 deuces on the night.
Player of the game: Anthony Russo, QB, Massachusetts; Josh Gable, K, Massachusetts

Green Bay Blizzard (5-5) @ Iowa Barnstormers (1-9) 43-17: I tell you what, it's games like these where I am just so glad I am so dedicated to watching every single game every week. This was probably the most boring game of the year. Green Bay kind of limped out to an early lead just thanks to the ineptness of Iowa's offense (Zach Reader being pulled with -1 passing yards, as an example) and then the two teams just futzed around the rest of the game, mostly running the ball. Even Iowa giving newcomer Henry Ogala more playing time wasn't enough to make this game interesting. The dude had zero time in the pocket and when he did throw, it was nothing anyone wants to sit there and watch. 2/10 would not recommend watching Green Bay at Iowa again.
Player of the game: Terrence Smith, RB, Green Bay

Duke City Gladiators (4-6) @ Bay Area Panthers (7-3) 52-69: I have a hard time figuring out what Duke City is. Their offense always looks so lost and uncoordinated on the field, like they have no chemistry, but they somehow score a lot of points? Anyways, they kept up pretty well with Bay Area for the first half, but BA was able to get a quick score before half and then return the opening kickoff of the second half for a touchdown. They then coasted the rest of the way for another solid win. Justin Rankin was incredible, running for 100 yards and 4 touchdowns while Dalton Sneed (Daltons Speed?) was efficient as usual, spreading the ball around to his receivers. A couple of late interceptions by the Panthers off of McCollum sealed the win and dashed any hopes of a DC comeback.
Player of the game: Justin Rankin, RB, Bay Area

Tulsa Oilers (1-9) @ San Diego Strike Force (4-6) 55-56: This turned out to be a really entertaining game, as the Oilers started a new quarterback, Andre Sale, who they signed earlier in the week after having spent part of the season in Duke City. Sale played great, and looks to be in the same mold as Nate Davis- that is, a pure pocket passer who is great at finding the open receiver and putting it on target. And I don't know if Tulsa did anything different with their offensive scheme, but it seemed like dudes were getting way more open than they had up to now. Still, it wasn't enough as Nate Davis dragged the Strike Force to a touchdown with less than a minute left to take the lead. The Oilers were then able to drive down to the goal line with 3 seconds left, but their kicker sliced a chip shot field goal to the right as time expired to give SD the win.
Player of the game: Nate Davis, QB, San Diego; Edward Vander, RB, San Diego

Arizona Rattlers (6-4) @ Northern Arizona Wranglers (5-5) 63-62 OT: For whatever reason this game is unavailable on YouTube, and it looks like it was the best game of the week, so that kind of sucks. The two teams went blow for blow for the entire game, with NAZ scoring a game tying touchdown and 2 point conversion to send it to overtime, where NAZ missed a two point conversion, allowing Arizona to score and just kick the PAT for the win. It looks like both quarterbacks played great, combining for 11 passing touchdowns and 5 rushing touchdowns between them. RCB had a great receiving game for NAZ, as did Braxton Haley for Arizona.
Player of the game: Drew Powell, QB, Arizona

Power Rankings:

Not a whole lot of movement, as to be expected at this point in the season. I know Frisco has lost two in the past few weeks, but I still feel like they are the best team in the league. I think an argument could be made for the order of 2-4, and maybe even you could include the Rattlers in that group as well. It's going to be a real exciting last few weeks for sure.

2023.06.06 13:50 bischofk TB500 Day 1, BPC 157 Day 3

I am a 205lb man, who's suffered from persistent lower back pain for over a year from an injury that has never fully healed. It has been about 80%, but has left me extremely stiff, difficult to make long car rides or stay in any position for long periods. Standing also causes pain within about 15 mins or less. Making matters worse, this pain radiates into my genitals as a result of inflaming the nerves that run through the pelvic floor (at least that is my doctor's explanation).
I am hear to report, I've been taking oral bpc 157 for 3 days 2x daily @ .5mg. I did not feel anything in those three days. However yesterday, I added a single dose of 2.5mg of TB500 (which is less than half the recommend dose of 7.66mg per week for a 200lb person).
Today was the first day I have woken up without stiffness or pain in a year. While I am not ready to call it a victory so early.....signs are pointing to this being the real fucking deal and I am super optimistic this stuff is going to finally allow me to rlive without daily pain. So excited. I will definitely report back!

On this day in 1966, Civil Rights activist James Meredith was shot by white sniper James Aubrey Norvell during an unarmed protest March in Mississippi.
Hit the dirt! The cry came [57] years ago today, at 4:15 p.m. on June 6, 1966, just before three shotgun blasts exploded from the bushes along Highway 51 near Hernando, Mississippi. Two of the rounds found their target: James Meredith, a 32-year-old black law student who had the day before embarked on a protest march from Memphis to Jackson, Mississippi. As Meredith fell to his knees on the ground, the civil rights movement found itself at a turning point.
In 1962, Meredith had been the first black student to attend Ole Miss, another in a line of desegregation victories stretching back to Brown v. Board of Education in 1954. But now the unity of those early years was dissolving. The next three weeks would show the world just how much.
Four years had passed since Meredith had applied to transfer to the all-white University of Mississippi at Oxford. When the university rejected him despite his high grades, a federal court ruled that he could not be denied admission based on the color of his skin. Even so, the governor of Mississippi took it upon himself to travel to the campus in person that September to keep him from registering. President John F. Kennedy had to order in 500 federal marshals and 5,000 army troops to disperse a racist mob that gathered outside Meredith’s dorm. A riot on September 30 killed two bystanders and injured 168 marshals before the army overwhelmed the outraged Mississippians. Meredith, protected by armed guards, endured a year of threats and harassment before graduating in August 1963. Now, in 1966, Meredith was attending Columbia Law School in New York on scholarship, but he remembered the terror he had felt in Oxford. He decided to conquer his fear by marching through Mississippi. He hoped his example would help Mississippi’s 450,000 disenfranchised blacks confront their own anxieties and register to vote: If I can do it, maybe they can, too. An iconoclast and a loner, he chose not to invite any civil rights groups to join him. I didnt want a crowd of people to go into rural Mississippi and become a burden upon the Negroes in the area, he explained. This is crop-planting time.
Unarmed, accompanied only by six friends, and carrying a Bible and an ebony cane, he set out from Memphis June 5 on his March Against Fear. Just three years after the assassination of Medgar Evers and two since the assassination of Malcolm X, Meredith believed fate would protect him on the highways of Mississippi. I had always felt that I could stop a mob with the uplift of a hand, he said later. Because of my divine responsibility to advance human civilization, I could not die.
He had walked just 28 miles when, the very next afternoon, a sniper emerged from the bushes just inside the Mississippi state line. James Meredith! he yelled. I only want James Meredith! Meredith’s friends scattered, shouting Look out, Jim, he’s got a gun! and Hit the dirt! Meredith stood frozen as 60 birdshot pellets sprayed into his neck, legs, head, and right side. He collapsed to his knees and tried to crawl across the highway before another blast hit him. Oh, my God, he groaned. Is anyone going to help me? Fortunately, state troopers and FBI men had joined him on his second day, and they chased the gunman into the woods. They quickly returned with Aubrey James Norvell, a 40-year-old unemployed Klansman. Uncuffed and smoking a pipe, he freely confessed as police hustled him into a squad car. He would go on to serve 18 months of a five-year sentence for the shooting. Although the Associated Press mistakenly reported him dead, Meredith suffered only superficial wounds. Recovering in a Memphis hospital, he seemed to rethink his outlook. He swore never again to march unarmed, at which a friend quipped, That’s not in keeping with the nonviolent philosophy, Mr. Meredith. Who the hell ever said I was nonviolent? he answered. I spent eight years in the military and the rest of my life in Mississippi. His apparent turnaround coincided with an identical incipient shift in the civil rights movement, a shift Meredith’s shooting would soon bring to national attention. The leaders of five civil rights organizations—Stokely Carmichael of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, Floyd McKissick of the Congress of Racial Equality, Roy Wilkins of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Whitney Young of the Urban League, and Martin Luther King, Jr., of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference—rushed to Meredith’s bed, asking permission to carry on the march in his name. He assented, and on June 7, 20 marchers set out to finish his 220-mile journey.

2023.06.06 13:16 ykevin [Chronicles of War: Time's Redemption] Chapter 1

Intro: In the fictional serialized story “Chronicles of War: Time’s Redemption,” the main character embarks on a thrilling journey through time to alter the course of World War II. Driven by a desire to reshape history, the protagonist, a brilliant scientist named Dr. Alexander Reynolds, creates a revolutionary time machine.
Dr. Alexander Reynolds stood before the imposing metallic structure that dominated his laboratory. The culmination of years of research and countless sleepless nights stood as a testament to his unwavering determination. It was his creation—the key to rewriting history.
The time machine, a marvel of engineering and theoretical physics, hummed with latent energy. Dr. Reynolds, a man of sharp intellect and unyielding ambition, took a deep breath. It was the moment he had been waiting for, the moment he would step into the abyss of time and reshape the course of World War II.
As he strapped on his wristwatch-like device, the Time Chronometer, Dr. Reynolds couldn’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and trepidation. He had meticulously planned every detail of his mission, poring over history books, analyzing battle strategies, and studying the key events that led to the devastating global conflict.
With a final adjustment of his goggles, he pressed the glowing button on the console, and the time machine roared to life. The room trembled, and the air crackled with electricity as the machine generated a portal into the past.
Dr. Reynolds stepped forward, his heart pounding in his chest. The portal shimmered, beckoning him with the promise of altering the tides of history. Stepping through the threshold, he found himself transported to a world gripped by the chaos of war.
It was June 6, 1944—the fateful day of the Normandy landings. Dr. Reynolds stood on the cliffs of Pointe du Hoc, overlooking the vast expanse of the English Channel. The gunfire and explosions filled the air as Allied forces fought valiantly against the entrenched German defenders.
He felt a mix of awe and disbelief as he witnessed history unfold before his eyes. It was the pivotal moment that would shape the future. But Dr. Reynolds knew he couldn’t allow events to proceed as they had in the original timeline. He had come here to change the course of the war entirely.
With unwavering determination, he pulled out a notebook with meticulously detailed plans. His first objective was to prevent Japan from entering the war, altering the chain of events that led to the devastating attack on Pearl Harbor. If he could succeed in diverting their attention elsewhere, the United States would be able to focus its resources entirely on the European theater.
Dr. Reynolds knew the task wouldn’t be easy. It required delicate maneuvering and precise timing. He had to infiltrate high-level diplomatic circles, manipulate decision-makers, and alter the political landscape of the time. The world’s fate hung in the balance, and he was determined to reshape it to his vision.
As he set off on his mission, Dr. Reynolds couldn’t help but feel the weight of responsibility on his shoulders. He questioned the morality of tampering with history, of playing god with the lives of millions. But he also knew that the potential consequences of inaction were too dire to ignore.
The journey he had embarked upon was filled with uncertainty, danger, and ethical dilemmas. Dr. Alexander Reynolds, armed with his intellect, his time machine, and a steadfast belief in his cause, set forth to reshape the world, to create a reality where the United States emerged victorious, Nazi Germany was no more, and the whole Europe fell under the influence of the American superpower.
Little did he know the challenges he would face, the sacrifices he would make, and the unforeseen consequences that would test the fabric of time. Dr. Reynolds took a deep breath and forged ahead, determined to alter the course of history and, in doing so, to rewrite the present.
To be continued…

2023.06.06 13:09 iXendeRouS Theoretical best forge setup

2b/week real
Ask questions in comments hopefully yt doesn't find this
No it is not boosting as all acc on same coop. This would be achievable with 7 friends but as sb players we know that isn't possible
Coop

Gear for every account:
Mods:
Method
For each account:
Requires you to wake up early and go to sleep late ish to forge 3 sets per 2 days for good efficiency. One set per day is ok but not optimal
For bal you may need to kill bal with venoms touch bow or find despawned bal and go in and out of khazad dum. Razer abicase helps with getting all forges before bal respawn as forge abiphone is randomized if it picks up
Jungle temple cheese works. Remember to bring cobble cause no cookie on alts
Sapphire requires robot parts for each perfect. Can still be very good profits esp during aatrox sometimes idk
Jade requires divan tools. Occasionally worth grinding for cause noone else wants to. 7m profit per perfect sometimes higher
Can't do ruby or jasper cause can't farm crystals
Opal is stupid
Amber decent. Goblin king stench stays for 20 minutes playtime including swapping lobbies so you can use same stench across multiple days
This method allows for 60 perfects per day
2 - 3m profit per perfect if bad market 4 - 6m profit per if decent - good market 7m+ has been known to occur if funny mayors. Topaz and sapphire biggest offenders.
I've been running my main and 2 alt accs for the last few months making 60m/day (only doing 1 set of perfs per day cause sleep)
Theoretical limit assuming 4m profit per perfect is 240m/day
Use money to upgrade drills when profitable on main cause they only take 30 seconds to forge. Easy + 10m+ profit per day up to 50m/day with good preparation/buy orders/markets
Can squeeze in something fast like a golden plate or gemstone mixture after 3rd set of perfects for even more tryhard profit
Overall 280m/day is somewhat realistic
good funni minion setup 2b/week is not unobtainable.

2023.06.06 12:51 vpyr [Rise of the elven sage] - Chapter 32

Chapter 1 Previous Chapter
Disgust swelled within Raphael as the full magnitude of their predicament became clear. The world they inhabited was plagued by an insidious darkness, where prejudice and exploitation ran rampant.
"And believe it or not it's the official stance of our dear government," George exclaimed, his voice tinged with a mix of disbelief and anger. The news hit like a punch to the gut, especially after their isolation in New Trampton. The depths of human desperation were unfathomable. "Can ya imagine? People were so damn scared that they didn't think twice about selling their own flesh and blood to those power-hungry maniacs. Just like Sanya's parents," George spat out the words, the disgust and dread dripping from each syllable.
“The government's got a target on our backs. We're going head-on against them and others without morals and scruples to rescue Vivian. But here's the thing, once we pull that off, we can't just stroll into a happy reunion. Oh no, my friend, we'll have to vanish into the shadows, disappear like smoke in the wind." The Orc's words hung in the air, a stark reminder of the dangerous path ahead. “And you really want to do that for me?”, Raphael asked unsure. “Yes, we would.”, came from behind of Raphael.
Raphael spun around, his eyes landing on Sanya as she emerged from the embrace of the blanket. A gentle shuffle of footsteps brought her closer, her movements slow and deliberate, as if tiptoeing through a dream. The remnants of sleep clung to her, evident in the way she rubbed her eyes and let out a weary yawn. But what caught Raphael's attention the most was the way her tail, like a secret treasure, coiled protectively around her form, as if seeking shelter from prying eyes. Taking her place beside Raphael, Sanya cast her gaze upon the Orc with a glimmer of hope dancing in her eyes. A subtle shift in her posture brought her closer, her head gently finding its rest upon Raphael's shoulder. The unexpected weight of her trust settled upon him, catching him off-guard. In that moment, as her presence nestled against him, he couldn't help but feel a surge of emotions stirring within, a mix of gratitude and responsibility intertwining in his heart.
“Whaaaaat is for breakfast?”, she said more yawning than speaking. “Scrambled eggs, Sausages and Beacon. I have some Orange juice as well. Will be ready soon.”, the Orc said as he turned around onto finishing the breakfast. “Thanks for saving me.”, Sanya whispered so low that Raphael thought it to be his imagination. “I will not forget that. I am so glad you are alright.”
Sanya's tiny hands clutched Raphael's chest, seeking comfort within its protective embrace. She buried her face against him, her sobs escaping in hushed whispers, their echo tugging at his heart. Feeling the dampness seep through his clothes, he realized her tears stained his chest, mingling with his own sense of helplessness. Gently, he cupped her head, guiding it tenderly against his chest, his touch offering reassurance and comfort. With a rhythmic motion, he soothingly patted her head, hoping to ease her distress and provide a brief respite from the turbulent world that surrounded them.
“I am alright. You will be alright. We will be there for you. We won’t leave you alone. I promise.”, the Elf said reassuring. “See I told ya, he is a good guy.”, the Orc chimed in. “Oh shut up you stupid Orc!”, Raphael answered.
A fleeting moment of silence hung in the air, interrupted by the gentle melody of Sanya's laughter. Her eyes, now adorned with a delicate smile, lifted to meet Raphael's gaze. In that precious instant, the tears that once cascaded from her eyes had ceased their descent, offering her a glimmer of solace. Raphael's heart swelled with gratitude, knowing that amidst the chaos and uncertainty, the young girl had found a semblance of trust in their companionship.
“Seems like we became Dad’s”, Raphael joked. “Seems like it. But I will be the cool Dad, ya can be the strict one.”, replied the Orc as he put the food on the table. “Dig in everybody.”
“What did you have in mind? Looks like you already have a plan”, Raphael asked inbetween bites. “Oh your eggs are tasty!” “Yes, let’s begin with telling ya how it all comes along in the first place”, the Orc began to explain.
As they savored their meal, George delved into the intricacies of his role in the underground auction. His words flowed like a captivating narrative, holding Raphael's rapt attention. It felt as though he had stumbled upon a tale straight from the cherished pages of his beloved books. The very concept of this clandestine event seemed surreal, something that could easily be dismissed as a wild conspiracy theory or the concoction of a deranged mind. Yet, here he was, listening to George, a person he had grown to trust even in this short time. From the masks to capes, every detail had been meticulously planned to shroud the identities of those involved. It didn't sit right with Raphael. The thought of what would be sold off, the illicit transactions that would unfold, weighed heavily on his conscience. A part of him longed to dismantle it all, to expose this dark underbelly to the world. But then again, there was the one thing that compelled him to play along—to seize the opportunity to retrieve Vivian, to bring her back into his arms. Yet, as if reading his thoughts, George reminded him of the dangerous truth. This operation had government backing, and any attempt to expose it would brand him as a lunatic or, worse yet, silence him permanently. The stakes were high, and Raphael knew he had to tread carefully, balancing his desire for justice with the need to navigate the treacherous terrain of this perilous world. In spite of the this, the trio that ate some breakfast, planned to sabotage the event. With George's invaluable insider knowledge as the organizer, they saw a glimmer of hope—a chance to liberate Vivian and secure their own escape before the participants would notice what went wrong. Yet, their victory would only mark the beginning of a new set of challenges. Where could they find refuge in this perilous world, where danger lurked around every corner? As transformed beings, their very existence painted a target on their backs—a fact reaffirmed by the haunting image of McKennsy.
After George unveiled the intricate workings of the underground auction, a heavy silence settled upon them. Raphael sensed a multitude of unanswered questions lingering in the air. How would they free Vivian? How would they navigate their escape? And where would their journey lead them? The road ahead was treacherous, fraught with uncertainty, and their small band consisted of unlikely comrades—an Elf with just a little unstable magic, an Orc with unconventional skills in art and illegal organization, and a young girl, blissfully consuming her bacon. It was far from an ideal situation, yet amidst the challenges, a few truths remained crystal clear.
They knew the risks involved, understood that their lives would once again hang in the balance. But they had made a pact—a steadfast commitment to stick together, to protect and support one another, forged through the shared experience of having been captured and the knowledge of being hunted.
“Can I get some juice?”, Sanya asked, surprising Raphael and George alike. The girl seemed to have an uncanny feeling to know when to lighten up a mood. “Sure.”, the orc said as he poured a glass of orange juice for her. “Let me try something.”, Raphael said reaching for the glass.

[The Many Gifts of Malia] - Part 110

Malia cover
[First Chapter] [Previous Chapter] [Next Chapter]
***
Shortly after Hasda’s decision, we embarked on our journey through the maas to his final Trial. A few dry, sandy maas and Tarrha’s, which was surprisingly aquatic, later and we entered the final maas before Frischii. Like the land beyond, the maas was smeared with forests, swamps, and humidity that thickened the air with oppressive heat. Thankfully, none of the gnats that would plague us on exit lived within the maas system, but the condensation that beaded our skin was certainly unwelcome.
Curnerein delivered on the midges and mosquitoes as soon as the portal opened. We came out to the south of Kirunadh, the northernmost village of Frischii. It was a village besieged, surrounded by a pike-filled moat and wooden walls that ended in the moat’s embankments. Staves had been into the ground near the edge of the outside ring, angled away from the moat, and several held decapitated, gray-skinned corpses impaled upon them. Despite the heat and bright sun, the archers in the watchtowers burned torches in easy reach.
What people we saw foraging outside the village wandered with eyes as dead as the land felt. No furtive movements, no cautious glances over their shoulders as they checked for an undead swarm. They’d passed beyond jaded to utterly numb.
In contrast, the soldiers drilling on the fields seemed lively, almost excited. Their movements snapped, practice swords and staves cracking against each other with enthusiasm. Sandaled feet bounced on the springy ground, tunics glued to sides by sweat and muggy air.
Distinct from both groups was the man who stood a few spans from the village gate. When he saw us, he stumped over with his staff, a scowl crinkling the sweat on his face. Bowing, he revealed a bald patch in his otherwise full, dark hair. “It is good that you have returned, Lord Hasda. And greetings, to his gods. Your arrival is a welcome and blessed event.”
“A blessing upon you, Master Salason, and a pox upon this accursed heat.” Malia fanned herself with a wing. “What news have you? Has the Weeping Queen shown herself?”
The man shook his head. “We have tried to contact the Sivariians, but they stay in their swamps. Rumors say Vythar has settled with the Elthiians after his brother Oophan’s death, but the Stitcher still holds Balphar’s Hall. The Sleepless still come but, ever since Hasda repelled them, they have kept no camp on our side of the Fyrisard.” He coughed. “Is this plague finally to be ended?”
“Very soon.” Malia gave him a reassuring smile. “Our heroes have rested and prepared, and before summer’s end Frischii shall be free of the soulless.”
“Not before the Trial begins,” Kydon rumbled.
We all jumped a little. No one had seen the half-troll arrive, and his portal hadn’t given him away. He must have figured out a way to cloak it. I’d ask him about it later.
“You aren’t going to commence it immediately?” I turned to face the grinning ogre.
“You would give me free rein over the finer details?” His toothy smile was almost a leer.
“Of course not,” Malia snapped. Her wings beat the air in agitation, both at the Arbiter and the weather. “What did you have in mind?”
“I must search the Trial grounds for any gifts you might have hidden.” Kydon scanned our surroundings, as if he could already see a handful of concealed stashes. “But, as I understand that the land across the river is held by the Stitcher, anything stockpiles you’ve laid beyond it shall be permitted.”
“Only beyond? What of those within?” Her eyes sparkled at his frown.
“If it is within the Frischiian banks, then no. The banks shall terminate at the point where Hasda’s knees are hidden by the waters of the Fyrisard.”
Malia nodded. “It is acceptable. What gods are barred from direct involvement?”
“Only you and Charax, who are limited to advising your champion during the Trials and withdrawing him if you fear for his life, as is tradition.” His eyes narrowed. “Although my gut says that your proxies should be disbarred as well. You know how your hands are tied by the rules of the Trial, and that other gods may meddle as they wish. Why, then, would you ask now?”
A ghost of a smile flitted across her lips. “No reason.”
“I heard about how you released Vetor in Tingid.” The ogre folded his arms. “So, as Peklo falls within your jurisdiction, I must add that the souls of fallen legends, though not divine, strictly speaking, constitute divine puppets, and therefore direct extensions of you. Please refrain from unleashing any upon this Trial.”
“As much as I’d like to contest that, fine.” She pursed her lips.”And the gifts on this side which you fail to discover?”
“I will find them.” Kydon bared his teeth and flexed his muscles, drawing his shoulders up. “Three days, and then the Trial will commence. You may finish your preparations while I search.”
“Hope you enjoy your surprise. I picked it especially just for you.” She gave him an innocent smile.
Scowling, the Arbiter said nothing as he stumped off.
The village elder clasped his hands and bowed slightly. “All is well?”
“As well as it may be, Master Salason. But this heat withers me.” She flurried her wings. “I will retire to my dwelling. It is still furnished, I hope?”
He nodded vigorously. “It is as you left it, great goddess, but I fear that we have no abode prepared for your fellow pantheoner. The village is small, as you have well seen from your time among us, and with the attacks—”
“That’s quite all right,” Malia said, cutting him off with a flick of her hand. “My mate requires no separate quarters.”
“I am relieved.” And he was. He stood a little straighter, as if a weight had been lifted off his shoulders.
“If you’ll excuse us, we’ll be taking a reprieve in our accommodations. We’ve a few days before we begin in earnest, and I must bring my husband abreast of the events at hand.” Curling a wing around me, she ushered us towards the village. Glancing over her shoulder, she dismissed Hasda and Salason in the same breath, the former to the troops and the latter to whatever business he had to be about. Thrax trotted in Hasda’s wake as the pair made their way to the field, and the elder disappeared amongst the foragers.
Despite the rustic aesthetic, Kirunadh had a drawbridge of sturdy oak, raised and lowered by braided ropes. The path outside the village was spongy although well-beaten, but inside the town the ground was harder packed, mud mingled with dust and hay. I wasn’t sure where they’d gotten the straw from, because it didn’t match the wild grass that grew in the area, but it served to keep the village from being a mud pit within the walls.
Our tabernacle looked no different from the wooden huts the mortals inhabited, save perhaps for its height and the twiggy wreath on the lintel that might have been a gorgon’s head. Two gray stones hung where eyes might be, thin sticks for fangs, and scattered feathers intertwined in the circle, though not clustered in wings.
Malia pushed the thin wooden door open and ushered me inside with a flourish. Heat blasted from within as the trapped air escaped outside. Within was a simple bed, rough table, and a wardrobe that was little more than boards nailed together.
“This is it? I’m surprised you haven’t plastered war plans floor to ceiling.” I ducked through the doorframe and straightened. While the door was too short, the ceiling was high enough that I could stand comfortably.
Chuckling, Malia slipped in behind me, her wings the only thing too tall for the frame. “Since the Stitcher is Hasda’s responsibility, there’s been nothing to do but repel and defend. Such a simple existence has required little planning.”
“Right.” I gave her a look, although she didn’t see it since she was rummaging in the wardrobe. “And what gifts did you leave for Hasda this time? And Kydon?”
She snorted a laugh as she brought out a map and spread it on the table. “Now there’s a surprise.”
I came up behind her and hugged her, careful of her wings. “Care to share?”
“He’s going to waste three days looking for something that’s not there.” She settled back into me with a contented hum. “And yes, I’m serious. No gifts, no surprises, no secret stashes.”
“Are you okay?” I put my hand to her forehead. “Are you ill? Residual effects from that plague god’s poison?”
She was so pleased with herself she was practically purring. “Kydon doesn’t know about my garden, so those are free game. Not to mention that others may move in our stead without violating the rules of the Trial.” Sighing, she leaned forward to absently tap the map. “But Hasda has grown independent, and he’ll be more satisfied finishing this Trial on his own, as much as he can. I won’t move unless absolutely necessary, so his glory isn’t soured. However…”
“Yes?”
Her eyes flashed as she looked up at me. “I’m going to enjoy irritating the fire out of that stupid oaf when he comes up empty-handed. Not all gifts are corporeal. I wonder how long it will take him to realize?”
“You’re diabolical.” I kissed the top of her head.
She giggled. “‘Effortless’ and ‘thoughtless’ are no twins, though they can be companions.”
A horn sounded somewhere in the compound.
“The last player on the stage.” Her fangs peeked out as she smiled. “Come, let’s see the Sleepless. We can discuss the lay of the land later.”

2023.06.06 12:32 boutell New US CCS chargers report for May 2023

Here are all of the new US CCS (Level 3 fast-charging) stations that rolled out in May 2023, according to the Department of Energy. These chargers are suitable for most new EVs on the market, except for:
  1. Tesla drivers who haven't bought the official CCS adapter yet. Certain older Teslas need additional work done to accept the adapter.
  2. Leaf owners like me, and some owners of older cars that also use CHAdeMO. If you drive a Leaf, or an older CHAdeMO car, see my matching post in leaf.
Some of these chargepoints will be "refreshes," e.g. the provider replaced them with faster chargers etc. Some may be incorrect. This report is only as good as the Alternative Fuels Data Center data.
There were 222 CCS charge points added or refreshed in May 2023, which is up from 171 in April. For comparison, there were only 74 new CCS charge points in May 2022. Things are speeding up.
"What about CCS charging at Tesla superchargers?" Tesla is in the process of rolling out their "magic dock" for non-Tesla cars, but so far in very few locations. If they start doing this at scale and reporting it to the Alternative Fuels Data Center then it will be reflected here.
"What about Ford vehicles with NACS (Tesla) plugs?" They are not on sale yet. Current-generation Ford vehicles have CCS plugs. The next generation will have NACS (Tesla) plugs, but will also support CCS via an adapter.
If you'd like to know about new chargers along your routes right away, or just prefer not to check this list monthly when new openings are rare in your area, I've set up a free service that provides email notifications as soon as they open. You can sign up at evpov.com. Or not! I don't really have a business plan here, I built it to help EV owners like myself.
To streamline this post, multi-chargepoint locations are listed with the number of chargepoints first, so that's why the post is shorter than in previous months.

2023.06.06 12:31 Clean_New_Adventure Killing my triggers one by one; need help with social anxiety?

Frustrated to be back on Day 1 again. I had a big victory this year by telling my partners and work folks that I'm not drinking, but my other big trigger is social anxiety.
We travelled to visit my husband's extended family, who all got together on Friday to welcome us. We were out, everyone ordered alcoholic drinks, and I... ordered a bottle of sparkling wine for the table, thinking it would get distributed among all the participants and I would end up with very little. Stupid, stupid me! This kicked off a big round where other people also ordered bottles of the same wine, proposed toasts, etc. They are super sweet people, so thinking this was my "drink of choice" they produced multiple bottles of it over the weekend to offer to me. Then on Saturday afternoon, my 6-year-old daughter told them, "My mom doesn't drink alcohol any more," and I was totally mortified.
I guess there's no real message here, except: what is your best low-key answer when (nice, well-meaning) people try to include you in their drinking culture? Any tips on how to proactively create connection when they're clearly going to be taken aback by you not drinking alcohol (my husband is from a culture that traditionally integrates alcohol into food culture and social life).

2023.06.06 12:28 JuliusSeizure2019 Board game idea: Star Wars Rebellion PREQUELS VERSION

Why it's a really good idea: whether or not you like the movies, the strange situation of both sides being manipulated by the same puppet master I think presents an opportunity to create a truly unique and new war game experience. Instead of simply two sides trying to overwhelm each other, the two players will have to consider strange new dilemmas - managing heroes who may be secretly being groomed to the dark side, having to survive with Clone troops who will imminently turn against you, infighting with the Sith who want to betray each other.
Basic idea: begins after the battle of Geonosis. The map is divided into Trade Federation controlled planets and Planets controlled by the Republic. The Republic planets have their native species troops (for example Kashyyyk has Wookies, Naboo has Gungans and many planets have humans). When these native troops are killed they cannot be replaced, whilst the Droid armies can produce infinite troops and do so quickly. To avoid being overwhelmed by the Droids, the Republic has to make the Clones which can also be produced infinitely and very fast. The catch with this however is that if the Clones defeat the Droids, Order 66 will be issued and the planets of the Republic with their native troops will have to wipe out the existing Clone armies to win. After Order 66, the Clones are not able to produce more armies like the Droids were unless they take back control of their home planet Kamino, but can still conquer the Republic if too many were made during the war against the Droids.
This idea creates an interesting and unique dilemma - the Republic player has to carefully manage producing the Clone armies to resist the endless horde of Droids, whilst also worrying about how to defeat those same Clone armies later. They will have to protect the native Republic armies from being killed by the Droids, whilst being especially careful not to produce too many Clones

Win conditions:
-Jedi: 1) capture all the Droid controlled planets and then destroy all the Clone armies after Order 66, or 2) kill Palpatine and his Apprentice after Order 66.
-Sith: 1) conquer majority of planets and wipe out their native armies with the Droids, or 2) wipe out the native planets armies using the Clones after Order 66.

Palpatine's apprentice: another important element is Palpatine selecting a Jedi to brainwash to the dark side. This does not have to be Anakin, with Palpatine using his genius to groom any figure he wishes. The Sith player secretly chooses one of the Republic's Jedi heroes to be Palpatine's choice of Apprentice, who at Order 66 becomes a Sith with very strong abilities. Before Order 66, the Sith can use cards to affect battles or planets nearby to the Apprentice and also will try to avoid having them killed in battles, but this allows the Jedi to potentially guess the identity of the Apprentice. The Jedi player can make single official guess at who the Apprentice is - if they guess right then the Apprentice never becomes a Sith after Order 66.
Clone vs Droid production: Droids can create new Droid units on any planet they control - the Clones however can only produce new Clone units on the planet Kamino where there cloning facility is. If Kamino is controlled by the Droids or native Kamino army after Order 66, no new Clones can be made until the Clone armies take control. This creates more risk for the native Republic troops against the Droids, but also adds balance after Order 66 with the Republic having a chance to totally stop the flow of Clone troops.
Sith politics and infighting: Sith characters like Dooku and Maul are powerful, but the Republic player can use cards to do with them that undermine the Sith player, reflecting the Sith seeking to overthrow each other. The Sith player will want use these characters power, but also kill them to avoid the dangerous infighting.
Anakin, the chosen one: Anakin is an especially powerful character, who can complete a mission to unlock his full chosen one potential, which makes him extremely able to kill Sith leaders and stronger than any other Jedi character. This makes him an especially good target for Palpatine's Apprentice, but not mandatory (Sith Yoda for example is still very strong, or a weaker Jedi that is unlikely to be guessed is useful).

Extra stuff

Hate Leads to Suffering: when a Sith is killed, a card can be played that keeps them alive but in Sith armour (like Vader's).
I will do what I must: Obi Wan has a mission card where he can try to turn Palpatine's Apprentice back to the Jedi, which keeps the Apprentice's new power and means only Palpatine needs to be killed for Jedi victory. This is impossible however if Obi Wan is the Apprentice.
Political Idealist: there is another mission card with the potential to turn Dooku to the Jedi side. However he can then no longer undermine the Sith from within.
Force Ghost: there is a card that temporarily resurrects a killed Jedi to complete a mission or win a battle.
Assassination: the Sith have a card which enables them to automatically kill a Republic leader.
Fine addition: General Grievous rolls an extra dice for every Jedi he defeats.
No hope: a Sith mission has the potential for Palpatine to acquire Luke and Leia Skywalker as babies. Palpatine now on gains additional dice to roll for missions/battles.
Exile: after Order 66, a Sith card automatically removes a Jedi character, who goes to hide.
Droid Factory Sabotage: Jedi player chooses a Droid controlled planet, which then cannot produce Droids for the rest of the game.
Second Cloning facility: Jedi mission card can choose a second planet to produce clones on in addition to Kamino.

I give full permission for anyone to use these ideas of mine - I just want to see this game made.

P.s. Theres an interesting attempt to make a Star Wars Rebellion prequel version. Watch this video of a virtual simulation of it. If anyone seeing this has an update about this version, please tell me!

2023.06.06 12:23 Jaybluefeather libs, why do u think the chaddis whine so much about hindu muslim

Its true that the islamic history in india is tainted with blood, and perhaps thats what burns their asses so much bcz they believe they have been on the receiving end of the torture. But that was centuries before, india's hindu population will always be many times greater than its muslim population, hindus have rights, power, freedom of expression. Nothing is holding them under a sharia law. Granted that musanghis exist and they are as vile as the chaddis themselves, but is it wise to bring up such cases only for the sake of diving people? shouldn't the gov ask muslim maulanas and leaders to condemn such acts and promote peaceful existance? Wouldn't that be the ultimate victory of the hindus against opression that they have not only risen up in power, but have also made a brilliant community? Government has power, and it can do anything (just like the overnight demonitization). Shouldn't the bonding between the two faiths (irrespective of what is written in their holy books) be the main concern, so that people from BOTH sides tend to shun the acts of intolerance and promote peace? You have the power, use it for good.

6/6 Tuesday MLB Baltimore Orioles vs Milwaukee Brewers Betting Preview
In this Tuesday night matchup, the Baltimore Orioles will take on the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field. Both teams have been performing well this season, making this game an interesting one to watch and bet on. Let's analyze the data and trends to provide insights into why each team may cover the Run Line and whether the game will go Over or Under the Total.
ATS and OU Records and Trends: The Baltimore Orioles have an impressive overall record of 37-22, and they have been particularly strong on the road with a 20-10 record. They have also been dominant against right-handed pitchers, going 22-14. Furthermore, the Orioles have covered the spread in 12 of their last 13 road games, showcasing their ability to perform well in away matchups. However, they have struggled recently, going 5-5 in their last 10 games.
On the other hand, the Milwaukee Brewers hold a solid overall record of 32-27. While they have been slightly better at home with a 16-12 record, they have performed well against left-handed pitchers, going 9-11. The Brewers have covered the spread in four of their last six games and have a strong track record when playing against the Orioles, winning seven of their last eight matchups. They have also performed well in head-to-head games at home, winning all five previous encounters.
Reasons the Baltimore Orioles may cover the Run Line:
  1. Strong road performance: The Orioles have been exceptional on the road this season, and their 20-10 record away from home indicates their ability to compete in hostile environments.
  2. Favorable matchup against Freddy Peralta: Although Peralta has shown flashes of brilliance, he has struggled in his recent starts, posting a 4.62 ERA. The Orioles' lineup could take advantage of this and put up runs against him.
Reasons the Milwaukee Brewers may cover the Run Line:
  1. Home field advantage: The Brewers have been solid at home, and their previous success against the Orioles at American Family Field could work in their favor.
  2. Pitching prowess of Freddy Peralta: Despite his recent struggles, Peralta has the potential to dominate on the mound with his high strikeout numbers. If he finds his rhythm, the Brewers could keep the Orioles' offense in check.
Reasons the game may go Over or Under the Total:
  1. Pitchers' recent performances: Kyle Gibson of the Orioles has had mixed results in his last three starts, while Freddy Peralta has struggled in his recent outings. This could lead to a higher-scoring game.
  2. Offensive capabilities: Both teams have shown the ability to put up runs, with the Orioles averaging 4.95 runs per game and the Brewers averaging 4.08 runs per game. If the offenses perform to their capabilities, the game could go Over the Total.
Prediction for the final score: Based on the trends and data, the Milwaukee Brewers have the upper hand in this matchup. They have a strong home record against the Orioles and have performed well in recent games. Taking all factors into consideration, the prediction for the final score is a 6-3 victory for the Milwaukee Brewers.
