Hold your horse 'fore you bust your britches, I've sunk hundreds of hours into all of 343's games and (even as a self-admitted bungo fanboy) I think they're all great games that had something uniquely fun about them. However, with all the talk about Marathon and the strong change in art direction for the reboot and how different the look, feel, and atmosphere is when looking at the original trilogy, a fella was feeling reflective on the Halo franchise and couldn't help but note the change from the moodier tone of the Bungie-era games. When 343 took over the mood of the franchise shifted the games felt brighter and carried a far less somber tone then previous entries.
Halo 4 may not be the biggest offender, but it's story took on a far more clear-cut science fiction approach. Forerunner aesthetics changed from the more brutalist and ancient look to a far more chromified look. The promethean knights did add a little bit of a spooky flair that was nice but their gameplay was clunky, robotic, and mostly reskinned covenant enemies. It's a dead horse by now, but these change had an impact on the overall feeling of the game that felt more like Star Trek. Halo 5 only took this a few steps further and added so many floating pieces to nearly every forerunner design, corners were removed from the game (for real every 90 degree angle has been sanded down in this game), and the lighting changes left the game feeling plastic like meanwhile the whole game feels like a superhero movie combined with a poorly setup mystery game (the second mission in that games is the only exception to this general shift in tone). Infinite definitely brought things back in line with traditional aesthetic (even though 343 insists on making everything forerunner shiny metal) but ultimately keeps a brighter tone with a few sweet stoic moments thrown in. The mystery of the ring starts to fall apart as the environment was only pine forests and all the chrome corridors looked kinda samey.
Now I've picked apart these other games but I hear you asking, "well what was so grand and special about boongies game nerd?" I got you baby, lemme take you on a little trip back to '01. Second mission of the game has you exploring this ring and nails the atmosphere, the leftover Forerunner facilities feel derelict and ancient showing millennia onto millennia of aging (a trend well-continued in the sequels). Theres so much to learn but you're too busy starving off alien ISIS and then accidentally released a space-borne STD. This continues throughout all three installments and brings me to the first real MAJOR shift.
Forerunners to the forefront- flood gone :(. Halo 4 got my little 12 yo brain in frenzy by announcing the return of the Forerunners. I had been playing catch up to the franchise that was in development before I was conceived (thanks nothing mom and dad) and so to be there to experience what should've been a seismic shift in story was exciting. But the disappointing presentation the Didact and Forerunners isn't what I want to talk about. It's the change from setting to main character. Forerunners were enigmatic, mysterious, and dead. All that was left was what they left behind. This is already a pretty ominous and foreboding setup as your war for survival takes place on a battleground that has existed long before you and long after you only to discover a zombie parasite that seeks to consume all life was locked away there and now shits hit the fan. And something about this carries so much atmosphere. Think maps like Isolation, locked in a box, wind blowing in your ears, groans coming from the abyss meanwhile flood-herpes grow all over. Any idea wtf is going on? Me neither and that's the point.
When the Forerunners were brought to center stage, everything mysterious was lost. This big structures weren't stuck in purgatory but were alive and brimming with energy. The hallways weren't dark and filled with evil shit, but were leftover sets from Tron Legacy. Halo 5 has a human AI take over all this stuff for her maniacal plan (ChatGPT?), and Halo Infinite removed all that business to replace it with a new enemy that look just like a Forerunner anyway. Basically, cats out the bag and nothing is secret anymore. The Forerunners and subsequentially the Flood loomed over everything before. Our war with the Covenant was just another battle in a much older fight, one that only nerds who read the books fully understand. Our A.I. girlfriend slept the night at his house and we had to crawl throw all the grime and slosh just to get her home safely. Our only solution was a big explosion that nearly destroyed one of the last major creation by the Forerunners. There was always something beyond what the player was experience but was always present as well.

The consequences could be catastrophic." true but if we were to tell the humans we could have them work with us to make the universe a better place. it would be better to tell them and be friends with them than to not tell them and be their enemies. are you crazy? what makes you think that telling the humans that would be a good idea? they created gods with their beliefs alone and fought wars with them and won! the universe was rewritten by them several times without them knowing it! what makes you think we won't be erased and forgotten or labeled as fiction like the elves, Fay, or their gods? look at Earth is filled with an absurd amount of myths and mythology the humans made several religions all of which are real because they believe them to be real and throughout their history they had religious wars on behalf of their gods which told them to kill all other gods for there own survival and power. the humans had recreated the whole universe several times. one time there were Norse gods then there were Greek gods and with the collective beliefs of the humans their own history was rewritten to fit the things that they believed in. At one point they want out to find other life in the universe and its safe to say WE were made by the humans who believe that they are not alone in the universe our history was written to even exists before the humans because they believed that they were not the first to exist in the universe. The advisor listened to the Consul's words, a mix of fear and anxiety gnawing at their core. They had never considered the full extent of humanity's power and the potential consequences it could bring. "I understand your concerns," the advisor responded cautiously. "The implications of revealing the truth to humans are immense, and the risks are undoubtedly high. But what if we could find a way to guide them, to help them harness their powers responsibly? We could establish a partnership, a mutual understanding between our races. With their potential, humanity could reshape the universe for the better. It would be a delicate balance, but if we work together, we might prevent the chaos that could arise if their powers were left unchecked." the humans always won because they believe they would win their power is channeled through their beliefs so why not use that agent them if we can get them to lose all hope and believe that they will go Extinct then we can assure our longevity. The Consul pondered the advisor's words, weighing the potential risks and rewards of such a plan. If they could manipulate the humans' beliefs and guide them towards a more subdued path, perhaps they could avert the disastrous consequences that could arise from their untamed powers. "You propose a dangerous course of action," the Consul replied, their voice filled with caution. "If we were to tamper with their beliefs and manipulate their collective consciousness, we would be playing a dangerous game. We cannot underestimate the resilience and determination of the human spirit. Their powers indeed stem from their beliefs, but we must tread carefully, lest we become the antagonists in their narrative." The advisor nodded, acknowledging the gravity of their proposal. "You are right, Your Excellency. We must not underestimate the humans, nor should we disregard the potential consequences of our actions. But if we do nothing, and the humans stumble upon their true abilities, chaos and destruction may be inevitable. We must find a way to strike a delicate balance, to guide them towards a responsible path without encroaching upon their autonomy." so to sum it all up we got three choices A: we tell the humans the truth and hope B: we start a war with the humans and hope that they will lose hope C: we let them find out and yet again hope so let us take into account what may happen with each choice for A and C, the possible results are the humans understand why we kept this information from them and make the universe a better place eliminating the inimitable heat death of the universe a crafted after-life for all of the universe's inhabitants to be able to go to. the humans become aware of their power and lose their moral campus eventually becoming gods with some being evil and uncaring of others I believe the human saying "If you want to see someone's true character give them power." for B the possible results are we driven them to extinction by making them believe that they are already on the verge of extinction using our propaganda to trick them into thinking we have more powerful weapons than them. and have them think we saw all their past wars as nothing more them Childs's play. but we risk their propaganda rewriting our original goals or them using propaganda to make themselves stronger than they were if we fail a war agent the humans we risk the whole of our races. if there is nothing else that needs to be said let us start the voting. I propose an idea we keep it a secret from the humans but try to find a way to get the humans to ever lose their class 9 powers or be able to give it to other races it may be worth a shot saying that we are testing a new gene editing serum that would make us class 9 physics and have them believe it works resulting in everyone being on the same level as the humans thus solidifying the current structure of the universe. that is a good proposal plan D may be the best choice we have gotten yet now is there anything else to add before the voting begins? … and so the vote for the fate of the humans and in turn the universe began.

Lately, I don’t even feel human! I have used the plant to numb emotions since I was 12 (34 now)! Massive trauma after massive trauma! I just want a better life! I don’t want to follow his shoes as I can see how much misery it brings him (even though he cant see it) and how much it controls his life! The poor guy will drive around for hours just smoking his pipe (because his SO doesn’t agree, peer pressure definitely doesn’t have an age limit) which is not only not safe and makes me worry for him but also just sad! He owns a large house in a nice neighborhood and cant even sit on his back porch and partake. I digress, my point is I am at the point where I am admitting to myself I have been like him, blind to the pain I am self inflicting! Every time I quit I feel like I go mad trying to pinpoint the time/event/trauma that caused things to lead to this. I realized today asking “why” is consuming me and I need to stop but cant seem to. So yesterday I had a delivery that states in the delivery note that asked can I bring up to their apartment and bring the groceries inside because I’m guessing he’s disabled? Or bedridden? My thing is, as a black female doing Instacart by themselves and to enter someone’s apartment is a big no-no. Not to mention I live in Buffalo, NY, it isn’t the safest city, I don’t even leave my car running sometimes during deliveries. Sometimes I barely like bringing groceries to unlit back doors but I still do it and I don’t shop past a certain time because I don’t like delivering in the dark. I’ve heard TOO many things happening to delivery drivers. So long story short, IC calls me to basically sayng I didn’t do the delivery correctly and the customer is MAD because I didn’t go into their apartment? Is that really my job? Does IC really think that’s safe and does IC’s rules say I gotta do that? I think it’s completely unfair because of course he gave me a 1 star rating but like, if you can’t get out of bed shouldn’t you have some sort of nurse or personal aid come help? Why do I have to put myself in an uncomfortable situation for a $10 order? ($3 tip) Or just idk. The whole situation makes me angry because if I feel uncomfortable doing something as going into your apartment I feel like I have a say so in my own safety. I did my duties and that was bring them to your door. Idk am I wrong for this? And side note, I have gone into people apartments before in the past but they usually greet me and most of the time are just old and weak and need help bringing groceries in but as far as like the front door? But for me to go INSIDE? I don’t think that’s fair.

I have a 7 month old who is quite large, 23 pounds, 30” long. I’ve tried wearing him on my back in the Ergo and I’m just having a hard time getting him and myself comfortable, and I’m really a little overwhelmed at the process of putting him in by myself when out and about/ am not really able to do it without help. If I’m being honest I am also very self conscious about the big strap on my stomach in the front.
