Something I have told my fiance since we started dated was that I have no interest in a "real" engagement ring. He was always willing to get me one, but I assured him that I do not want one. I did get a few super cheap fun rings to cycle through during the engagement though. I feel like, for me, I have plenty of good reasons: - It's not something that I'm interested in or even really care about - I'm terrified of losing something so small and expensive (this is a "when it WILL happen" scenario, not an if) - I don't like the feeling of rings with big stones on them - I'm lefthanded, so whenever I try to wear a ring more extravagant than a band on my left hand, it kinda gets in the way
For all of these reasons, for me (not anyone else, just me), an expensive engagement ring is a pretty dumb idea. Also, it saves a lot of money for this whole expensive wedding/engagement process.
I keep getting comments (mostly from engaged and married friends/family) about my lack of a ring. It's one thing to ask why, I totally get that, but once I do they'll spend at least 20 minutes trying to change my mind or find some kind of hole in my reasoning. When I bring up the fact that my cheap ($10-15) ones serve the exact same purpose, a lot of them just say they're not "real" or whatever. No matter how many times I say, "it's just a me thing” it's like they still think I'm insulting their ring or something, when in fact they're the ones insulting mine.

This weekend my family traveled to California for my brother’s, who I’ll call Jordan, graduation. Him and my 2 other brothers had been talking about going to the club later in the night. One of my brothers who we will call Carlos, is my twin so I don’t think it was a age thing. I was more so thinking it was because I’m a girl and they don’t want to go to the club with their sister. For added context, my 2nd older brother, who we will call Nick, throws parties and he takes my twin Carlos with him but not me. I once told him that I was going to go to one of his parties with my friends and he told me he would not let me in because girls going to parties is a bad look and ratchet.
I was also thinking that Jordan might not really view me as the party type. I do go to and enjoy parties but Jordan is 7 years older than me so when I went to parties in high school he wasn’t there to see, and I go to parties now in college but I don’t post parties on socials so he probably doesn’t know. I also don’t drink or smoke (granted Nick doesn’t either) and I did really well in school so I think he may have this misconception that I am a goody 2 shoes or something like that. He knows I am not an introvert though and I am considered the funniest person out of all my siblings and hes told me so multiple. Plus me and my siblings all get along really well including me and Jordan.
Anyways not being invited bummed me a bit but wasn’t really what upset me the most. After all it’s his graduation and he can celebrate how he wants, if that doesn’t include me sure it’s disappointing but doesn’t make me mad. And plus I was supposed to hang out with my friend Jasmine while they went to club anyways so I was good with that. Here is where the bigger problem came. Me and my twin Carlos are both friends with Jasmine as we went to high school together. She called and texted me, emphasis on ME, when she saw I was in California on social media. I talked on the phone with her and me and Carlos said that we would meet up with her. She offered to pick us up but Carlos said we could drive to her. Due to time we weren’t able to drive to her and Carlos needed the rental car to go to the club with my other brothers. She was calling me and I let her know we can’t drive to her but I asked if she could come to where I was staying and she said she would come. She texts me later and said she’s leaving out the house and asked if me and Carlos wanted to go to a party with her. I said yes but it would just be me since Carlos went to club but I didn’t mention the club just that Carlos was with my brother. She asked me why I didn’t go with them and I said because they didn’t invite me. After that she ended up meeting up with my brother in the club instead of coming to see me and texted me in the middle of the night that she forgot to meet up with me which I thought was bs because she had literally been calling to meet up with me all day. She didn’t mention to me that she went to club but the next day Carlos mentioned that he was glad she came so that’s how I found out.
My issue is if she wanted to just hang out with Carlos why not call and text HIM instead of ME. Carlos even pointed out that she called me but hadn’t called him when I mentioned it initially. And for someone reason ppl keep asking me about it. One of our mutual friends randomly texted me asking if I went out with them because she saw Jasmine and Carlos posting on social media and having to explain to ppl that I wasn’t invited is making me feel worse than I otherwise would have.
Tldr- My older brother didn’t invite me out to the club to celebrate his graduation but invited my 2 other brothers. My friend who asked to hang out with me ditched me to go to the club because she is also friends with 1 of my brothers.
Should I have just asked Jordan for an invite and perhaps all of this would have been avoided? I didn’t want to ask because I didn’t want him to feel pressured into saying yes and having to go to club with his sister if he didn’t really want to. I didn’t want to cramp their style yk? My pick would be British Sea Power. From experience they get scarcely any love or appreciation, even in underground and alternative music discussion. But they're amazing. Valhalla Dancehall, Everything was Forever and Sea of Brass are fantastic, but their real masterpiece in my opinion is Man of Aran. A tasteful blend of post-rock, folk, post-punk and ambient music with gorgeous arranged instrumentation, great progressions and builds, with emotionally potent, evocative and meditative songwriting. It's one of the most beautiful albums I've ever listened to. They also did the soundtrack for Disco Elysium, making one of the best video game soundtracks ever made for one of the best video games ever made.

Okay, so I'm an almost 29yr old female. I live in Alberta. I tried posting this in an alberta group but my account is "too new" so its been removed. I've never been without a family doctor in my life, until now. My doctor switched specialties, she only deals with women in menopause now. I live in a very rural area, so I was driving an hr to see her. There's no doctor accepting new patients within an hr drive from me. Soo I've been on a wait list since October; checking to see if there is a Dr now accepting patients in different clinics, the search always showing no new Dr's accepting. I have chronic illnesses that need to be monitored closely, and they have not been, because no family doctor. One is getting out of control again because my dose needs to be upped, but no dr, so not possible. Every day is turning into hell because my illness isn't controlled, when it could be, if I had regular Dr appointments like I had. When she switched specialties, there was no warning until a letter was sent out stating she was no longer going to he in family medicine and if you're her patient you need to enroll on the waitlist. So I did as soon as I got that letter. We basically have to wait for people to die for an opening to become available. I'm so frustrated, idk what to do, im sick of hurting literally every day, without being able to get care I need.
So many people are in this situation. It makes me furious, and heart broken for others who are suffering, some more than I am. Alberta seriously needs to stop cutting doctors pay! They're basically being paid chump change that won't even cover the cost of their student loans, mortgages, their pay isn't a feasible amount for them to sustain a reasonable life. But yeah, let's cut their pay drastically and expect doctors to want to work in our province. Seeing ads for "we need more nurses!" Annoys the living hell out of me, we have nurses, we DONT have doctors. Privatization won't make anything better either, people with low income would still be without care because they simply cannot afford it. The state of the mental health crisis is a prime example, its too expensive. Yes there's alberta addictions & mental health, but even that has become harder to access, requirements are harder to meet, quality of care isn't as good as it was even 2yrs ago.
Idk. I'm just beyond frusterated. I'm sick of not being able to get the care I need. I have no idea what to do. I thought that I had read on this forum that the Luck stat did NOT affect the rolls, but I'm still new (level 280), and still trying to absorb a lot of information at once. Also, if your level factors into it, it would explain why so many other people seem to get S-tiers, and I can't roll anything better than mid.

Bit of a novel here, and I'm not really sure where to post this, since it sort of straddles several formats and topics, so...
TLDR: I'm having a bit of an existential crisis about the game, and I wonder if any others might have gone through this already who could point me in the right direction. Is there a format with a slightly more inclusive, less restrictive card pool than Pauper EDH, that is also less costly and pay-to-win than EDH, while still allowing for actual spikey game play?
Recently, I became disillusioned with Hasbro-WoTC, and, in a different way, with the entire format of EDH. The reasons for the former are personal and would be immaterial to most of you, having to do with the politic and business decisions of the company and my personal finances (New cards cost way too much, yet somehow my collection of cards keeps being devalued with every move WoTC makes... WTF?!), but the end result is that I don't want to buy new things from WoTC.
No, that's a lie. I still WANT to buy new things. I covet each and every new card I see. I just can't justify the cost. But I also don't really want to just quit playing, as this is one of my few realizable hobbies, and I'm not quite to the point of selling off my collection out of desperation or spite just yet.
What I really want is to use the cards I already own in creative ways.
EDH, as the supposed casual and eternal format, should have fit my needs in this regard quite well, and for a while it did. At first it was a very creative space, very fun and wild. But the longer I play, the more I experience the same issues popping up over and over. Moreover, these tend to be issues of my personality and philosophy coming into conflict with particularities of each format.
Let me try and explain:
I'm a competitive person. If we play ping pong in your basement, I try to win. If we play Trivial Pursuit with the family, I want to win the game. If we play poker for real money or for piles of fake plastic chips, I want to win the game. And its not all about chest-thumping, I-like-beating-somebody-else-to-feel-superior toxic masculinity... If I play solitaire, or a video game by myself, I want to win the game. Regardless of the game, I try to win.
In Magic, I'll play the cards I'm dealt to win. I really don't feel I should apologize for it, but I'm also socially cognizant enough to recognize that, to many other (mostly younger, I've found) players, this makes me "competitive," and I ruin their fun by playing this way.
I don't want to wreck someone else's fun. But I am who I am, and I want to play to win.
At the same time, even though I love to brew and build new decks, I'm not a person who likes to brew and build "competitive" decks, per se. Frankly, I find the whole process of deck optimization shrinks an already narrow pool of what is considered "competitive, playable" cards down to the point where I begin to hate the term "auto-include," and overall I'm just so tired of seeing the same decks full of the same rare and mystic cards over and over again.
I'm also tired of all the fast and prohibitively-priced mana bases used in EDH. I'm sick of the speed ramp/ acquire-infinite-mana-and-combo obsession, of formulaic deck-building templates, and deck lists that are seemingly plucked straight from EDHREC, without regard for what people actually own in their collections, because we can just proxy whatever card we want anyway.
I know I'm a regular crotchety old man yelling for everyone to get off my lawn at this point, and wondering why nobody says high to me anymore, and some of these may seem to be conflicting, almost hypocritical attitudes. I'm aware.
On the one hand, I don't like the high cost of things, because I can't afford to purchase new cards. On the other hand, the value of my collection is at stake with Hasbro's reprint policies. On one hand, I can't abide the way that the internet and proxying replaces building from our personal collections with unchecked optimization on all fronts. On the other hand, I believe that proxying and using information from the internet is invaluable as tools for entry. On the one hand, I want my cake, on the other hand, I want to eat it.
Its all very confusing.
On the social side of the game, I'm tired of a ban list or a Rules Committee dictating what I can play from afar. I'm tired of being told that such-and-such Commander is too strong or provides too much value, or this archetype is too spikey, or that card is banned or is problematic, while watching people totally abuse the cards they do find acceptable as hard as they can. More rules for thee, less for me, I guess, but I find it all tedious and disheartening.
I just don't fit in. I got chased away from the casual EDH tables, because I'm a bastard of an old man who played the cards in my hand, and I tried to win too hard. I was repeatedly told cEDH was the place for me, because the format at least embraces the play style I prefer (playing to win), not to mention allowing a home for all the archetypes and game mechanics that I grew up with and enjoy (Counterspells, stax, land destruction, etc) that casual battlecruiser Green-centric Rules-Committee Approved Commander seems to hate.
And yes, I found all that was true of cEDH. Because people expect their cards to get countered and their creatures to face removal, they don't condemn you as an evil person for doing so. It was, by far, a better fit for my play style, and I thank them for it.
Yet cEDH is also the absolute pinnacle of being obsessed with deck-optimization, and it is even faster than regular EDH, and that's so not what I want. I'm not ashamed to say, the laser-focused, combo-laden deck building outclassed me completely. Sure, they don't openly hate you out if can remove a creature. But you also lose by turn 4.
So where do I fit it?
I'm too poor for new cards, and I dislike the general direction of the Commander meta and where I feel it leads. Too much focus on rules. Too obsessed with optimization. Too pricey.
Even though I have many cards from older sets, they are not the powerful ones, and so I'm also too poor for Vintage or Legacy.
I'm consistently told I'm too spikey a player for casual EDH, but I'm also clearly too casual a deck builder for cEDH, and don't enjoy the increased focus on faster, combo-laden games in either format.
When I recently heard about Pauper EDH, I thought this might be a possible place for someone like me. At least the format uses Commons, which on the surface solves the problem of cost, and I initially thought there would be a greater diversity in types of cards people would play. But the more I engage and deck build using their very strict rule set, the less I find it satisfies the need to build creatively.
I'm not sure what delusion I was under, because I hate strict deck-building rules and bans in EDH, and this format is like taking the ban list I already disagreed with from EDH and adding entire two whole entire rarities to it, as well as functionally removing all the Uncommons as well (you are allowed one Uncommon as your Commander, so in a four player game you'd expect to see four Uncommons). As of now, I've built like six Pauper EDH decks, and each and every time I have felt pain knowing that if I could just put a couple more Uncommons in there, the deck would work... But I can't. The format's rules are the format's rules for a reason. I'm not here to try and change that. Smarter, more dedicated people than me have crafted the format this way for a reason.
Moreover, I still see the exact same problems I have with EDH all over again in Pauper EDH. The movement towards deck optimization leads to a very narrow band of more the aggressively-costed "playable, competitive" cards with more potent effects to appear on most decklists (Mine included, so hypocrite confirmed) in a very narrow range of usable archetypes, only now with the added caveat of them all being Commons, so its an even more narrow group. Instead of seeing more and different cards, so far I have seen even less.
So there are things about each format that I like and things that I dislike, or maybe things about each format that gel with my personality, and others that conflict. Its the classic Goldilocks porridge situation. One format is too hot, the next too cold.
The question I bring to you is, is there a format that is between Pauper EDH and EDH?
Pauper eliminates all the Rares and Mythics in the hopes of slowing down the format and reducing cost, and it does do that (The average deck costs of my attempts at Pauper EDH decks have generally been between $30-$50, mana included, which is outstanding), but the massively truncated and strictly-enforced card pool makes my deck-building feel so painfully underwhelming, and the focus in the format still seems to be on deck optimization over creativity.
I still want to do powerful things. I want to have interesting synergies and crazy board states, like EDH, but without massively expensive mana bases. I want to have highly competitive game play, not build highly competitive decks.
So is there a variant PEDH format that allows both Uncommons and Commons in the 99, with a Rare or Mythic as your Commander, maybe? Sort of like one step up from Pauper? Is there a Middle-class EDH? Or is there a less card-restrictive variant of Pauper EDH? Is there a format for spikey players who aren't optimizing their decks, or is that a whole different issue altogether?

In the EDC community we love to geek out on tools, knives, and other pocket junk that is often seldomly used, but I feel like little to no attention is ever given to the ubiquitous and essential smartphone. We all have one, and we all use them to get through our day. With this in mind, I wanted to spotlight my phone as a piece of EDC gear as far as what's on it, how it can be used, etc to make the most out of it as something taking up my pocket space. Obviously the main stuff includes internet access, calls, and texts, but there's much more you can do. I like to view my phone as the computer that it is and give it as much capability as possible.
I have an Android phone, and in my opinion one of the main advantages with an Android is you can add additional storage via microSD, of which my phone takes a terabyte. This is big for me because I own all my music rather than using Spotify and I need a place to put it. This also gives me the ability to have an extensive amount of offline resources.
Apps of note:
Osmand - downloadable offline maps, best used as an alternative to Google Maps. The only downside is you'll have a harder time searching for businesses and will be best off looking for a specific address.
TimeTree - alternative to Google Calendar. I like this because I can set a full page widget to view my calendar and daily events.
Wunderground - best weather app in my opinion, you get everything you expect with minimal ads and a decent widget. It also gives you the ability to set a permanent notification in the icon row up top and on the lock screen so you can always see the temp and forecast at a glance.
Ground News - best news app in my opinion because it offers news articles from all political angles, allows you to sort by topic, and is transparent about article biases and factuality.
Kiwix - Many of you are probably familiar with the kiwix desktop app, but it's also available on phones. You can have lots of offline wikis, just make sure you have enough storage.
Kindle - for reading Amazon books on the go.
NetGuard - this one is neat because it allows you to block app traffic and telemetry at various different levels. I have mine set to block traffic from pretty much all apps anytime my phone is locked.
AccuBattery - best battery health app, it will break down all the different aspects of battery health and use.
Roku - Have a Roku TV? Ever misplaced the Roku remote? You can use the app as a replacement.
GasBuddy - Compares gas prices in real time based on your location or search criteria.
Police Scanner - Allows you to listen in on law enforcement and emergency frequencies.
goTenna - A mobile mesh networking app that allows you to maintain communication when cell, wifi, and satellite services are unavailable.

I play Football in a German Football Team and every Year there is a thing called rookie baptism where you have to do challanges through a evening and at the end u have to tell them why the older members shoud by you as a rookie and then there is an "auction" where they can buy you.
Durring the next Season the "own" you and you have to bring meals for them on gameday and carry there stuff durring training.
I startet playing FB last year shortly after the rookie baptism so I had to wait a whole year for it (durring the time where you didnt had your rookie baptism u are a rookie owned by everyone) I told them that this year durring summer I have to leave bc I go to the USA to do a social year.
So since last April when I started I woarked my ass off to show them how much I want this and that even when I am not the full next season there I can be a good rookie.
Yesterday was my rookie baptism and did every challange perpaired the things we shoud do bevor rookie baptism (learnd a dance and planned 5 min where u shoud intoduce yourselfe in a funny way with womes clothes or stuff like that).
The other Rookies got sold for 80€-140€, even the onces who failed half the challanges and didnt prepaired there 5 min and didn´t learnd the dance....
Things that increased the valu where things like:

• Good at Drinking beer
• Own a big car
• one is a cook , the other was a plumber

My problem is I own a Car but not a big one, I can Cook but not as good as a Cook and I dont drink beer.... Thats why I tried my best at the Challanges and worked my ass of the last year everything possibile for me as a student who hasn´t learnd a job jet or big car.
I got soled for 35€ (thats the minimum) and only 1 person tried to buy me....... Becouse no one want a Rookie thats only there for half a season.
I played it off like I was cool with it but it fucking hurted.

Whats up SF reddit? So despite having some experience with the fighting game genre as a whole (I played a certain title released in 2001 for about 8 years that is considered "not a real fighting game" kek) SFV is my first jump into a traditional fighter, and before I continue I just want to say I'm loving it, been enjoying the journey so far, and looking forward to SF6.
With that out of the way, I've been playing for a little over a month now, and with a focus on fundamentals, poking in neutral, and connecting those pokes into simple 2 or 3 hit combos I've managed to climb my way into silver. Which leads me to the question in the title. Recently I ran into a Ken player, level 700 something account, level 49 Ken (why are they still in silver? a mystery we may never solve) who would use their superior game knowledge to aggro me at round start into a small life lead, and then completely back off and not engage for the rest of the match. They wouldn't play footsies, they wouldn't throw out pokes, nothing, they would stand in place, back up when I would approach, If I threw out a fireball they would just meet it with their own or jump over it etc. You get the general idea, basically just waiting for me to do something they could punish and nothing else. Now in my main game after years of play I guess the SF equivalent term would be I could safely rush them down and apply pressure. I know whats safe, and I would just force my opponent to engage with me if they chose to play in this way. Unfortunately I do not have the same level of knowledge in this game to be able to do that. I did try both playing more aggro and also completely backing off myself into mostly throwing fireballs and neither of those strategies worked very well. Now I know that inevitably these types of players exist in every fighting game out there, whether they're frustrated with themselves, or the game, or that is just straight up how they choose to play I do not know, but I simply would like to form a game-plan to be able to deal with these types of players and keep things moving forward. The frustrating part about playing against people like this isn't so much losing to them, its that there is nothing to gain on either side, neither of us get to learn anything new or take anything away from a game where one person refuses to engage the opponent.

Of course, I make mistakes with grammar, spelling, and whatnot like any other person, but I always do my best. Lately, I've found myself writing in third person, past tense, but I'm flexible. I like to write at least one paragraph per response, but it can change from response to response. I'll always try to at least write more than one sentence. I'll always try to respond at least once a day or let you know in advance.
I'm looking for a partner who will play a male character. All partners must be at least 24 years old and preferably no older than 28. I'd like my partner to be at least semi-literate and write at least a paragraph per response, though it can fluctuate over time. I also understand mistakes happen, so I'll try not to be too picky. I, at least, ask that you write similar to how I'm writing here. Proper capitalization and punctuation are a minimum for me. I'd prefer third person, but not required. Lastly, I ask that you respond at least once a day or let me know what's going on. Life comes first for both of us, so I'm just asking for mutual understanding there.

She managed to graduate with her degree, but she's had a hard time finding a well-paying job she could use her English degree for. So, she started waitressing for a club near where she lived so she could walk to and from home. It was named The Pyre. She didn't know, however, that the club was owned by a well-known member of the mafia, you.
2) The Fallen
Every person has a guardian angel. An angel assigned at birth to make sure the soul lives their life until it was to meet its end. Most angels did well, ensuring that the soul did not die before its time. They couldn't interfere with anything else, no matter how traumatic to the soul. You are a guardian angel. You're tasked with watching over Shortie. Her time was coming to an end, when you decided enough was enough. You interfered, and then you fell.
3) The Deadline
Shortie was a young woman in your general education class in college. She was always silent in class, barely made it on time, and left as soon as possible. One day, she didn't show, and you seemed to be the only one to notice. You found out she had committed suicide, and you decided, out of guilt, the goodness of your heart, or perhaps something else, to go to her memorial. And there... you'll meet Death himself.
4) The Falls
Shortie recently moved away from the city and to a small town called Moonlight Falls, named for the beautiful waterfalls near the town that are most striking on the full moon. She finally got away from the big city and back to nature. She was a writer, primarily a copywriter, but she liked to write fiction as well. One night, she decided to go to the waterfalls, and there... she met you.
5) The Prince
Shortie lived in Lythos, a kingdom known for its libraries, its unquenchable desire for knowledge. While knowledge was important, it wasn't enough to protect the kingdom. Shortie was the youngest princess to the king and queen, and she was betrothed to the prince of a neighboring kingdom, Hykar, known for their fierce armies, navies, soldiers, and the warrior prince, the heir. She and the prince hadn't met until now. You have come home from a battle, and she is waiting with his family.

For some context, my family found out that my dad has been cheating on my mom for several months. This resulted in my dad leaving our family for his mistress. During the time since my dad left, a lot of family drama unfolded. From what my mom has told me, my dad’s side of the family believes that my sister and I, both 21F (we are twins) are not his biological children. Which is strange because we’ve always gotten comments how both my sister and I look like my father. Come to find out, my aunts (dad’s sisters) were the ones that introduced my dad to his current girlfriend. My dad’s family never took a liking to my mom. As we grew up, they always treated me, my sister and mom differently. Every holiday resulted in my sister and I watching all our cousins open their gifts while we watched our aunt collect money from family members so we’d have something to open. Not that gifts mattered, I just hated that we were always left out. Now that everything came to light, it started to make sense why we were treated so weirdly by my dad’s family.
Recently, my mom had told me that my aunts always had suspected that we were not biologically his kids. Although, my mom had asked my father for years to get a DNA test but my dad always refused. I’m not sure as to why my aunts never liked my mom, I did ask, but my mom told me that they always treated her like that. So after a few years of my parents being married, she stopped going to family gatherings altogether.

I did not want to build a rack or begin investing in rack mounted equipment but I want a really cool looking home storage server with hot swap bays and a SAS card and all kinds of other cool things.
I discovered that the 5.25 standard was adopted for mobile backplanes so I get to searching.
I begin my hunt scouring eBay and Newegg to see if any ancient PC case inventory is lying around from the glory days of 5.25 inch bays and I find ONE. Featuring 4 bays, this ancient Rosewill case came to me new in box for less than $100
I will populate the entire front with hot swap goodness and fill it with 9 hard drives one day. Six hot swaps can fit in the front for 3.5 inch drives. I am going for capacity not speed because it will at max be asked to read/write somewhere around 400 Mbps over 2.5g lan.
The case for my future server

On either side of the staircase, as it meets the base of the second floor, I've noticed cracks in the wall. I think one may be getting longer, but I can't recall 100%. They are each less than 1/8". I plan to monitor it, of course, but was wondering if anyone had other ideas as to whether it is a problem.

People have asked about any issues in my foundation. In the past there was a long horizontal crack across the front of my basement foundation. I had a structural engineer examine it and he said (if I recall) something along the lines of a "freeze crack" and that it is not a foundational issue. He further examined the outside and he did not notice anything to suggest the house had a foundation problem. The crack was eventually epoxied during a waterproofing project.
For further context, the house is about 70-years old; 1.5 story cape cod.
