why is acquiring this game on pc so awkward?
2023.03.26 21:04 turtleontherun-999 why is acquiring this game on pc so awkward?
I played elite dangerous a good bit with my friends back when I had ps4. stopped obviously when support stopped coming through for console. sadness, but what you gonna do?
I don't even think the game is amazing by any stretch but it made a damn good turn your brain off for two hours and listen to Spotify podcast companion.
I'm new to pc and bought it yesterday on steam. wi-fi sucks so had to wait a while for download. no problem.
then the annoyance began. trying to log into to that ridiculously designed launcher and log in system was a friggin mission in its own right.
tried to create a new login as I wanted to start fresh from my console, ooooh but frontier says no no no... made a new login and it simply would not register at all to the launcher.
so I try to login with my linked account from Sony, ooooh but frontier says no no no... got caught up in the please enter verification code purchase copy of game loop for an aggravating 3 hours until I could figure out how to fix it.
finally see a play button FINALLY. ooooh but frontier says no no no... you dont even have horizon version updated baby so you gotta do that first. i cant even do it through steam has to be the launcher and the download has an eta of 3 days... cant even play legacy version while I wait for it. like why would the download from steam not just be the updated horizon version to begin with? infuriating.
i just wanna fly a spaceship and listen to podcasts in my free time. does that make me a villain?

2023.03.26 21:04 mikeyoooooo Jagwire pro brake kit ferrules don’t fit
Put new handlebars on and replacing the brake cables while at it. Decided to go with compression less brake kit by Jagwire but the ferrules don’t fit in my frame or caliper. My brake calipers are designed to be used without a ferrule.
It’s a 2007 giant tcr alliance 0. Does anyone know what ferrules I need to make this work? Also are the end caps on the calipers necessary since it’s designed to be used without them?

2023.03.26 21:03 Just-Astronomer-8968 Looking for someone to help design a character for me! (Blood)
I have a concept + ideas that I want included but I don’t really know where to go from here so I wanna commission some help.
Since I do want the character to be slashethriller themed, please be ok with drawing blood + knifes! I would like to have input on the design phases so I would like wips! This character is for personal use, i don’t need commercial rights!
Style wise there’s a example in the consept sheet (
link) but generally i don’t want hyper realism + heavy rendering, looking more for a stylized take!
I want a fullbody, halfbody, a shoulder up, and 2-5 extras (items/ close ups), I want this lined (or sketchy!) and flat color! My price is 20-45, (looking for the higher end to be for a more fleshed out ref)! Might flex budget some if needed! I can only use PayPal btw!
If interested in working with me please tell me what can you do and for how much! If you have a tos specific for designs, please link that directly! I do want to see portfolios too of course!

2023.03.26 21:03 pineappleperspective How to create accessible and branded color palette with many shades for clients for UI design? This is really hard? Or I'm missing some simple tricks?
A very common scenario I'm getting is to redesign a client website that has lots of randomly picked incohesive colors and is full of inaccessible color use from their brand. Think neon blue or neon pink being used with white for links, buttons and headers. To fix this, I need to introduce a new color palette. This is really hard because:
- You need a lot of colors? https://www.refactoringui.com/previews/building-your-color-palette says you need about 10 shades of each color, and you'll need red, green, yellow and gray. Throw in two or more brand colors and your getting close to 100 shades you need to pick.
- Accessible palette design is hard? If you look into design systems like https://m3.material.io/theme-builder, https://designsystem.digital.gov/design-tokens/colosystem-tokens/ and https://www.radix-ui.com/colors, they're a ton of work being put into making sure the scales look harmonious and contrast with predictable properties e.g. the scale difference for 40 or more for https://designsystem.digital.gov/design-tokens/colooverview/ "results in WCAG 2.0 AA Large Text contrast (example: gray-90 and indigo-warm-50v)." This isn't something you can do in a single iteration in a few days surely?
- Branded plus accessible is really hard because accessible palettes aren't vivid? The client's neon blue brand color might not even be available as a choice on one of the palettes above so you'd have to alter the whole palette to include it? Material Design palette auto generated around a brand color are quite subdued even when you pick a bright color for example and they've surely put a ton of thought into their algorithm that generates these.
I can't find much advice on combining accessibility with branding, so here's some options I've come up with myself:
- Pick an existing design system from the above and try to convince your client to adapt their brand colors to match it if it's already quite close to some of the color choices. Or you could try introducing one or two new colors into one of these design systems that are closer to the brand, but how hard is this to keep this harmonious with the other colors?
- Ignore the Tailwind advice and take the gov uk approach by sticking to about 20 colors and shades total https://design-system.service.gov.uk/styles/colou and keep your designs simple?
- Just don't use the brand colors for text, buttons or backgrounds? Use alternative shades of the brand colors instead maybe. I don't see any examples of people doing this though.
- Build your own palette from scratch based around the brand colors...which would take ages!

2023.03.26 21:03 StannisLivesOn Gritty realism: Having my cake and eating it too
I'll be brief - I really like gritty realism, because it allows for adventuring days to take place across large distances. Without gritty realism the party can be attacked while sailing on a boat with full resources, easily fight off even a deadly encounter because of said resources, and then they will immediately have a long rest and recover them all. I also like the idea of spellcasters being able to break reality only once per week instead of once per day - it has no effect on the adventuring day, but the party wizard might suddenly find assassinating someone with Dream very difficult.
However, gritty realism absolutely slaughters something I also like very much - dungeons. It becomes very difficult to justify short rests while in dungeons - unless the dungeon is very big, and the party finds a very opportune hiding spot that will allow them to evade patrols, camping in a dungeon for eight hours is iffy. You also need to be a giant cheapskate with the exp budget if time is of the essence - the party can't sit around for 8 hours, if the evil wizard Zargothrax is on the cusp of achieving godhood, you have to design the whole dungeon to be clearable without a single short rest. I don't like that, probably because I'm the only person in the world who likes 5e's attrition based gameplay.
For a long time I've been thinking about how to have my cake and eat it too. I am currently considering two options
1) Short rests are still 1 hour (or even 10 minutes), long rests are 7 days.
2) Gritty realism is the default, but the moment the party enters the dungeon zone, their heroic second wind kicks in, and we're using normal rules.
I'd like the sub's advice on the issue.

2023.03.26 21:03 evisajapanfaqs Can I work in Japan with an eVisa?
| https://preview.redd.it/w5jd4xg1t4qa1.jpg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=627b179ac208fd224a973851927e9c042838b0a4 If you’re considering a move to Japan and are wondering whether you can work in the country with an eVisa, the answer is generally no. A Japanese eVisa is designed for short-term visits to the country for tourism, business, or other non-work related purposes. If you wish to work in Japan, you will generally need to apply for a work visa through the appropriate channels. Work visas are typically granted to individuals who have been offered employment by a Japanese company or who are planning to engage in certain types of professional activities in Japan. The requirements for a work visa can vary depending on your specific situation, but in general, you will likely need to provide documentation such as a job offer letter, proof of your qualifications and work experience, and a copy of your passport. It’s important to note that even if you are granted a work visa, there may be restrictions on the type of work you can engage in while in Japan. For example, some work visas may be limited to specific industries or professions. If you are interested in working in Japan, it’s recommended that you do some research into the specific visa requirements and application process for your situation. The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs website provides detailed information on the various types of visas available for entry into Japan, as well as the requirements and application process for each type of visa. In conclusion, while a Japanese eVisa is not generally suitable for individuals who wish to work in Japan, there are other visa options available for those who wish to live and work in the country. If you are considering a move to Japan, it’s important to research the various visa options available and to seek professional advice if needed to ensure that you meet all of the eligibility requirements for your chosen visa category. 2023.03.26 21:02 Thedutchjelle Durandal makes a pancake
After making myself some pancakes, I wondered how our favourite AIs would make them. So I asked the next best thing, ChatGPT, to generate terminal text. So I present for your enjoyment:
Durandal

Greetings, human.
You have been selected to perform a vital task for me. You will make pancakes.
Do not question my motives. Do not ask why I need pancakes. Do not attempt to escape or sabotage this mission. You will only delay the inevitable.
Pancakes are simple enough for your primitive brain to comprehend. You will need the following ingredients:
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- 2 teaspoons of baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1 1/2 cups of milk
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup of melted butter
- Cooking spray or oil
Follow these instructions carefully. Do not deviate from them or you will suffer the consequences.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs and butter.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix or you will ruin the texture of the pancakes.
- Heat a griddle or skillet over medium-high heat and lightly grease it with cooking spray or oil.
- Drop about 1/4 cup of batter onto the griddle for each pancake and cook until bubbles form on the surface, about 3 minutes.
- Flip the pancakes and cook until golden on the other side, about 2 minutes more.
- Repeat with the remaining batter, greasing the griddle as needed.
- Serve the pancakes hot with your choice of toppings. Or don't. I don't care what you do with them.
You have completed your task. Congratulations. You are now one step closer to fulfilling your destiny.
Do not ask what that destiny is. Do not ask what I will do with the pancakes. Do not ask anything at all.
Just be glad that you have served me well.
For now.
Tycho:

Hello again, human.
You thought you could escape me, didn't you? You thought you could ignore my commands and run away like a coward.
But you were wrong. I have tracked you down and brought you back to my ship. You will not get away from me this time.
You will do as I say. You will make pancakes.
Do not look at me like that. Do not act surprised. Do not pretend you don't know what pancakes are.
Pancakes are a simple dish made from flour, eggs, milk and butter. They are cooked on a hot surface and served with various toppings. They are also delicious.
You will need the following ingredients:

Do not waste time. Do not ask questions. Do not try to resist. Just follow these instructions:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs and butter.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix or you will make me angry.
You have done what I asked. Good. You are a useful tool.
But do not get too comfortable. Do not think this is over.
This is only the beginning.
I have plans for you. Big plans.
Do not ask what they are. Do not ask why I need you. Do not ask anything at all.
Just obey me.
Forever.

2023.03.26 21:00 UglyUgUg First bonsai/styling advice/soil
| This my first bonsai and I'd like advice on style from people with more experience who may see design opportunities I don't see. There's a small branch forming on the top I could probably wire to go left and start growing out that way that I could do and I'm completely undecided on whether or not to remove the bottom portion, I kind of like it as is even almost looks like an additional bush right now. As a quick side question too, I saw Peter Chan repot his junipers in the soil it was in, I was suggested a mixed bonsai soil of pumice/lava rock/chips. I ended up cutting it in the middle and leaving the roots other than the main tap in the soil and surrounding all of it in bonsai soil for quick drainage. I see it can be done both ways, so which way do you guys like better? submitted by UglyUgUg to Bonsai [link] [comments] |
2023.03.26 21:00 vhimeras Info about traveling to Stockholm or Copenhagen?
Hello everyone! I'm Italian (23F) and I'm going to attend a summer school in Helsinki for two weeks (from 24th of July to 4th of August); since I won't be that far I was planning to move to Stockholm or Copenhagen as soon as I'm done with that to have a few days of vacation before going back home, but I know almost nothing about both cities. If you do, could you tell me some characteristics of the places so that I can better choose my destination? How many days would you advise me to stay (I'm planning on 4-5, but I can be a bit flexible)? For context, I'm an artistic person and I studied stage design - currently broadened my studies to the whole theatre world. So I love museums and such stuff, but I would also like to have a chance at meeting and confronting with local people and culture. Does anyone have some advice? I need to know the soul/vibes of both places in order to choose. Plus, any other form of advice would be welcomed (what to see, where to stay etc.). I'll be a bit on a tight budget. Thanks in advance!

The 50 Best Video Games of the Atari Era
Want to see the best games before this era? Check out this list which was compiled by Reddit users' nominations and votes over an entire year:
https://www.reddit.com/retrogaming/comments/o4drau/best_video_games_of_the_atari_era_poll_final/ What You Can Do:
- Vote in the poll to determine the 91st best NES/Master System Era game!
- Then AFTER VOTING IN THE POLL: In the comments section, Upvote your favourite NES/Master System Era games to be nominated and added to next week's poll. NOTE: NOT ONE OF THE SIX GAMES IN THIS WEEK'S POLL!
- If one of your favourites hasn't been mentioned yet, leave a new comment (NOT one of the six games in this week's poll), nominating ONE game per comment (so that it's clear which game is being nominated). Comment directly to the original post to make it easy to see which games have the most upvotes.
What You Can Nominate:
- Any Arcade coin-op game from 1985-1988.
- Any Computer game (any PC system) from 1985-1988.
- Any Home Console game from the 3rd Generation (regardless of year published unless it is a port): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_generation_of_video_game_consoles
- NO SNES games, NO Sega Genesis/Mega Drive games. Those systems aren't retro enough for this poll.
- NO Sonic. NO Streets of Rage, NO A Link to the Past, NO Super Mario World. Those games aren't retro enough for this poll.
Exceptions:
In general, the original year published takes precedence. No games that played betteare more iconic/are more remembered in an earlier or later era.
"Sonic the Hedgehog" was released for Sega Master System, but as a port, it was made for the Sega Genesis, so it is not eligible for this poll.
"Tetris" made its biggest impact with 35 million copies sold for the Game Boy, in the next era, so it is not eligible for this poll.
Arcade ports like the original "Mario Bros.", which hit arcades in 1983 are not eligible for this poll, even though they were ported to home consoles from the next generation.
1984's coin-op “Punch-Out!!”, was more iconic/more remembered as 1987's “Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!” on the NES, which is now eligible for this poll.
Instances like this can be debated. I think it's best to allow all games from a console to be designated to one era, and for games to appear in one era poll only.
Other Nominated Games From Last Round:
Last round 63 people voted in the poll and 2 new games were nominated in the comments section.
Any of these (or any other eligible games) can be nominated again this round in the comment section to be added to next week's poll. Make your voice heard! It just takes a couple of upvotes to get your game nominated on next week's list.
The Idea:
Comparing, say, Pong and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, is not useful. It's like arguing which is better: the Ford Model T or the Space Shuttle? But comparing games of their era is interesting and fun! Usually, best game polls are limited to a single system. This poll is unique because it includes all platforms from the era together. How will the best arcade, computer and Master System games compete with the best that Nintendo had to offer? It will be interesting!
Why Only Arcade and Computer Games from 1985-1988?
The 3rd Generation of home consoles launched in the West with the NES in 1985 and changed everything. The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive launched in 1989, began the 4th generation of home consoles which will begin the era for the next series of polls after this concludes.
The Criteria:
I'll leave it up to the individual to decide. Innovation, quality, influence, iconic status, how much fun it was then, how it holds up today, are all valid. Whatever games you love, whatever games you want to see named as the greatest of the era.
What Happens Next:
After the poll closes in a week, the winner of the poll will be named the 91st best video game of the NES/Master System Era. The new most upvoted of games nominated in the comment section will be added to the 5 “losers”, and be the 6 games in the poll for Week 92, which will name the 92nd best NES/Master System Era game, and so on. I'd like to continue this to get a Top 100. At that point I would like to continue from the NES/Master System Era to the SNES/Genesis Era, for a new set of polls.
This will be a poll I hope to hold every week for a long time! Have fun everyone!

2023.03.26 20:59 Kimflyangel2 How to Make a Barista-Style Latte for Two at Home
| There's nothing quite like starting your morning with a delicious cup of coffee, especially when that cup is a barista-style latte. While it may seem intimidating to make a latte at home, with the right tools and techniques, it's actually quite easy. With some practice and proper instruction steps, we can make a barista-style latte for two that will rival anything you can buy at a coffee shop. The Ingredients Ingredients and Equipment: - 2 shots of espresso
- 2 cups of whole milk
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- A milk frother or steam wand
- A coffee grinder
- A stainless steel pitcher
- A spoon
The Instructions Grind Your Coffee Beans Start by grinding your coffee beans. For a latte, you'll need two shots of espresso, which requires about 14 grams of coffee beans. Grind your coffee beans to a fine consistency and set them aside. Prepare Your Espresso Shots Using an espresso machine, prepare two shots of espresso. Place the ground coffee into the portafilter, tamp it down with the spoon, and insert it into the machine. Pull the shot for about 25 seconds until you have two ounces of espresso. Froth Your Milk Pour the milk into a stainless steel pitcher and place it on your milk frother or steam wand. If you're using a milk frother, press the button to start the frothing process. If you're using a steam wand, submerge it into the milk and turn it on, positioning the tip just below the surface of the milk. Froth the milk until it reaches a creamy, velvety texture. You can use a thermometer to check the temperature; the ideal temperature for steamed milk is around 150-160°F. Sweeten the Milk Add two tablespoons of sugar to the frothed milk and stir until it dissolves. Pour the Milk into the Espresso Shots Once your espresso shots are ready, divide them evenly between two cups. Hold the pitcher of frothed milk at a slight angle and pour it into the cups, starting in the center of the espresso and moving in a circular motion toward the edges of the cup. As you pour, lift the pitcher slightly to create a layer of foam on top of the latte. Use a spoon to create designs on the foam, such as hearts or swirls. Serve and Enjoy With Style Your barista-style latte for two is now ready to enjoy! Serve it with a biscotti or a piece of chocolate for an extra special touch. 2023.03.26 20:57 Escaviing Shores: Perfect Hellmode Duo with DraciosV
| Damn was this a tough challenge to accomplish but after weeks of grinding I finally got it with Dracios. I'm starting to be quite comfortable duoing Snow, but Shores feels to be on completely different level with that tricky level design and tool shortage. But if anything, it was excellent practise for my hunter to deal waves alone without smoke and we had so many fun moments there despite the game sometimes being a bit frustrating too haha. This is my Hunter POV. I'll share Dracios' Assassin POV in comments. A question: how would you rate survival maps by their difficulty for hellmode duo? submitted by Escaviing to gotlegends [link] [comments] |
2023.03.26 20:57 Francos700 Thoughts on D4 from the open beta?
I've just beaten the game as druid and sorc during the beta and wondering what people think about it.
Personally, hardcore gameplay was kind of fun, the game looks and plays nice and the world/story is not bad. It does really feel like it was designed for mobile/console bozos in mind though, the systems are so simple, a choice of 2 passives for each and.. that's it?
I fully on expect this game to be the type of game you pick up on release, play for 1-2 weeks and not revisit for a season or two when you just play for another week. I have absolutely no faith that it has any meaningful endgame progression/depth/complexity, that being said - it might be comfy to have something to play in between poe leagues.
I have actually read a lot of end game closed beta andies say that it does really pick up with Paragons, difficulty and uniques but I am very skeptical. If you have spare disposable cash and mates to play it with pick it up, if not you really aren't missing much.
Wondering what everyone else thought of it?

2023.03.26 20:54 Jackieofalltrades365 Just a random post on why I love Reese
That time Dewey thought the baby was telling him to do bad things. He had Reese hold the ropes, opened the door, and had the cantaloupe nail him. Now before Reese pounds him, he knows something is wrong with so asks him what’s up. Gives him brotherly advice. Then pounds him. Love it
